As summer officially ends, we welcome in a new season. The autumnal equinox is a day often associated with the concept of balance. During this equinox, the Sun enters Libra and a point where the day and night are the same length. Libra symbolizes this with balanced scales. The concept of balance can also be found and seen in architecture. Elements within a sub-portion of buildings tend to be arranged symmetrically or proportionally balanced and can help set focal points and draw attention to desired areas. The awareness of the balance used in various architectural styles brings a greater appreciation of the built structures around us.
For most, this new season is also the shift into a new academic year. With that in mind, some of our most recent blogs focus on exploring Neoclassical and Victorian Gothic architecture in academic buildings.
