Broward Health and Nicklaus Children’s Health System Announce Transformational Affiliation to Enhance Pediatric Care for Broward County Families
November 21, 2024 – The boards of the North Broward Hospital District, doing business as Broward Health, and Nicklaus Children’s Health System, have officially approved an affiliation agreement to collaborate in delivering world-class pediatric care. Beginning in early 2025, the two organizations will work together to expand and enhance pediatric services across Broward County, with a goal of fully integrating and enriching the pediatric care offerings by latter part of 2025. This partnership will combine Broward Health’s community-focused healthcare network with Nicklaus Children’s renowned expertise in pediatric care, ensuring families can access comprehensive, high-quality services close to home.
This strategic affiliation is designed to improve access to high-quality pediatric services for the children and families of Broward County, with a shared commitment to delivering expert, compassionate care closer to home. Through this collaboration, Nicklaus Children’s will become the dedicated pediatric provider at Broward Health’s Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs locations, ensuring that local families can benefit from world-class pediatric care and specialty treatments without traveling far from home. The two organizations will enhance the breadth and depth of pediatric services in the community.

November 20, 2024 – FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – Broward Health has opened a new chapter for its electrophysiology and heart and vascular programs with the onboarding of Jose L. Baez-Escudero, M.D., to the newly created position of chief of cardiology for Broward Health Physician Group. Dr. Baez is the first systemwide chief of cardiology. He will also serve as the chief of cardiac electrophysiology and a key member of the Broward Health leadership team and medical staff.
Well respected in the community and a highly accomplished cardiac electrophysiologist with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Baez was most recently director of electrophysiology at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, where he was responsible for growing the complex arrhythmia program. He also served in several key leadership roles and was interim chair of cardiology and director of the cardiology fellowship program, further demonstrating his leadership and vision in advancing heart health.

CHILDREN’S DIAGNOSTIC & TREATMENT CENTER RECEIVES GENEROUS TOY DONATION FROM FOREVER FAMILY AND TOYS FOR TOTS
November 21, 2024 – Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC), an affiliate of Broward Health, received a heartwarming delivery of toys from Forever Family and Toys for Tots. The donations filled an entire moving truck which were transported from Orlando. The toy haul was so large that Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue assisted in unloading four pallets of toys for special needs pediatric patients.
“This generous donation will brighten the holidays for countless children in our care,” said Ana Calderon Randazzo, executive director at Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center. “We are grateful to Forever Family and Toys for Tots for their incredible support and commitment to spreading holiday cheer.”

NOVEMBER 19, 2024 – Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Sleep Center in Hollywood has been reaccredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), marking a decade of continuous accreditation and commitment to high-quality pediatric sleep care. AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness.
A study published in the American Academy of Family Physicians found that approximately 4% of children in the U.S. have a formal diagnosis of a sleep disorder. These disorders can significantly impact children’s learning, focus, attention, and behavior, among other areas.

HCA Florida Westside Hospital Night Nurse Saves Local Gas Attendant’s Life
November 21, 2924 -Plantation, Fla., — On the morning of Sunday, November 10, after completing her night shift at HCA Florida Westside Hospital, nurse Allison Seecoomare made a routine stop for gas. That morning, she encountered her regular gas attendant, 67-year-old Luis Sanchez Mendia, but noticed something unusual — Luis didn’t seem like himself.
Seeing Allison’s stethoscope, Luis asked her to check on him. At first, she thought he was joking, but soon realized the request was serious. Using her stethoscope, she detected a loud heart murmur so pronounced it could be heard without equipment. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Allison strongly advised Luis to go straight to the hospital.
When Luis hesitated, Allison emphasized the gravity of the situation. “Either you leave now, or I’ll take you myself,” she insisted. Convinced by her determination, Luis followed her advice and headed directly to the Emergency Room at HCA Florida Westside Hospital.

Hospital Board Welcomes New Members, Installs 2024-2025 Officers
November 19, 2024 – At today’s Sarasota County Public Hospital Board meeting, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMH) welcomed two newly elected board members and congratulated two incumbent members who won re-election this month. Made up of nine citizens elected by Sarasota County voters to four-year terms, the unpaid Hospital Board is charged with setting the strategic direction of the organization and serving as good stewards of its financial resources.
Pam Beitlich, DNP, APRN, RN, NEA-BC, who retired earlier this year after a long and distinguished career at Sarasota Memorial, was elected to At Large Seat 3 on the board on Nov. 5. Pam joined SMH in 1981 as a cardiac staff nurse, and progressed through leadership over the years to become executive director of Women and Children’s Services, overseeing Labor & Delivery, the Mother-Baby Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Pediatrics.
Longtime business and civic leader Kevin Cooper was elected to At Large Seat 2 on the board. Cooper currently is vice president for communications and strategic initiatives at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium and has been involved with multiple civic and community organizations. Previously, he served as a sergeant in the Ohio Army National Guard. He was deployed to Iraq and served as a convoy security operator during Operation Iraqi Freedom and received multiple awards and commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Joint Meritorious Unit Award.

November 20, 2024 – The American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, has launched its third annual Culture of Health mini-grant series.
Applications are open through Nov. 30 for Palm Beach, Okeechobee, Martin and St. Lucie County-based organizations that will use the grant dollars to fund projects around blood pressure control, nutrition security, tobacco-free and vape-free environments, or cardiac emergency response plans inclusive of CPR training and AED placement.

Over 496,000 New Consumers Selected Affordable Health Coverage in ACA Marketplace
Four out of five consumers remain eligible for high-quality, affordable health care coverage at $10 or less per month, after financial assistance that continues for 2025
November 22, 2024 – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is committed to creating a robust Marketplace Open Enrollment process for consumers so they can effortlessly purchase high-quality, affordable health care coverage. CMS reports that 496,000 1 consumers who do not currently have health care coverage through the individual-market Marketplace have signed up for plan year 2025 coverage.
During last year’s record-setting Open Enrollment Period, 21.4 million people signed up for coverage, driving the uninsured rate to a historic low, where it remains today. Consumers who have coverage now will see their coverage renewed for 2025 if they take no action during the current Open Enrollment Period. At the same time, existing consumers are encouraged to return to the Marketplace and actively renew their coverage. Over 2.5 million existing consumers have already returned to the Marketplace to select a plan for 2025. Building on the historic success of last year, we are on track for a record high number of plan selections for this year’s Open Enrollment.

Premier Mobile Health Services hosts Breakfast with Santa DECEMBER 14, 2024
Toy, bicycle donations sought for annual event; sponsorships available
FORT MYERS, Fla. November 20, 2024 – A nonprofit mobile medical clinic that brings essential healthcare to those in need at multiple locations across Lee and Collier counties will once again make the holiday season brighter for local children next month at its annual Breakfast with Santa in Fort Myers.
Hosted by Premier Mobile Health Services, the sixth annual Breakfast with Santa takes place at City of Palms Park’s east parking lot, 2201 Edison Ave. in downtown Fort Myers, on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Families will enjoy breakfast as the children visit with Santa and receive a free toy, while supplies last. There will be prize giveaways of bicycles and free haircuts for kids, with Premier Mobile Health Services providing free medical screenings for children and the Lions Club offering vision and hearing screenings.
