Nicklaus Children’s Earns HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 Validation for Inpatient Care
February 18, 2026 – Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has earned HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 Validation for inpatient services, the highest level of recognition on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, reaffirming the health system’s continued leadership in the use of technology to support high-quality, patient-centered care.
The validation, awarded by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), recognizes healthcare organizations that demonstrate advanced use of electronic medical records, data analytics and clinical decision support to improve patient outcomes, safety and operational efficiency.
Nicklaus Children’s first achieved HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 recognition for inpatient services in 2016. The 2026 validation reaffirms the hospital’s Stage 7 status across its inpatient setting, reflecting sustained excellence and continued innovation across the health system.

HYPERBARIC CHAMBERS SPEED WOUND HEALING AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL PEMBROKE
FEBRUARY 18, 2026 – Memorial Hospital Pembroke’s Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, one of the region’s most comprehensive wound care facilities, is having great success using pure oxygen under pressure (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) to heal even the most difficult-to-treat wounds. With four monoplace hyperbaric chambers, the Pembroke Pines-based hospital center can treat 16-18 patients each day whose wounds haven’t responded to other treatments.
Despite the complexity of some of its cases, Memorial has healed more than 90% of its patients in the last 10 years. More recently, 98% of more than 200 wounds were healed (average time: 30 days) during a three-month period last year. The typical hyperbaric oxygen protocol is 40 treatments, two hours daily, with excellent results usually delivered with eight weeks.
“The hyperbaric units follows strict Medicare guidelines for the use of oxygen therapy using evidence-based medical protocols,” said Dr. Blane Shatkin, a dual board-certified (plastic surgery and hyperbaric medicine) physician. He has been medical director at the Memorial Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy since its inception in 1997.

Cleveland Clinic First Hospital in the U.S. To Perform Robotic-Assisted Prostate Surgery Using Newly FDA-Cleared System
Cleveland Clinic is first health system in U.S. to use new robotic-assisted surgery system for prostatectomy
Feb. 17, 2026 – Following the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval in December 2025, Cleveland Clinic is the first health system in the U.S. to use a new robotic-assisted surgery system for a prostatectomy.
The new robotic system features modular “arms” that allow the surgeon to choose the best angle while operating on the patient, as well as an open console where the surgeon sits to operate the foot pedals and hand controls. This allows the surgeon to focus on the surgery as well as be aware of their surroundings.
The benefits of minimally invasive robotic surgery include reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, decreased recovery time and less postoperative pain for patients.
The FDA approval followed data from the Expand URO investigational device exemption clinical study — the largest ever completed for multi-port robotic-assisted urological surgery in the U.S., led by Dr. Jihad Kaouk, who was the principal investigator. Expand URO demonstrated that the system, called the Hugo RAS, met primary safety and effectiveness endpoints in urologic surgical procedures.

Freestanding center offers 24/7/365 emergency care for adults and children
February 18, 2026 – HCA Florida University Hospital announces the opening of a new emergency care center as part of HCA Florida Healthcare’s continued expansion across the state. Opening today, HCA Florida City Center Emergency, a 10,860-square-foot facility at 10100 Pines Blvd. Pembroke Pines, FL 33026, provides a full range of medical services for children and adults experiencing emergent issues.
This new, state-of-the-art ER will be staffed with board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, just like an emergency room that is housed within the walls of a hospital. Physicians and colleagues will treat a range of general and specific conditions, including infections, chest pain and broken bones, and will offer several diagnostic services on site.

OncoPRO builds on Sylvester’s pioneering immune-related adverse event (irAE) monitoring initiative, launched in 2022 as a web-based, multidisciplinary clinic led by melanoma expert Jose Lutzky, M.D., director of cutaneous oncology services at Sylvester and professor of medical oncology at the Miller School. The program established a collaborative approach to managing immunotherapy side effects by recognizing that timely symptom detection can mean the difference between manageable toxicity and serious harm.
OncoPRO advances this model by embedding patient-reported outcomes captured by the National Cancer Institute (NCI)-created Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE®) directly into MyUHealthChart, the health system’s electronic medical record. The PRO-CTCAE is a patient-facing assessment of symptoms and toxicities that can be delivered in real-time and beyond the confines of a clinic visit. This integration transforms symptom tracking from a parallel process into a core component of clinical care, creating a continuous, real-time feedback loop between patients and their care teams.

Innovative Trial Using Robotic Pets Enhances Dementia Care, Patient Outcomes at SMH
Feb. 17, 2026 – An innovative clinical trial examining whether robotic companion pets can improve the outcomes of hospitalized older adults with dementia has delivered meaningful results that have far-reaching implications for hospitals nationwide.
Led by principal investigator Joanna D’Elia, MSN, RN, GERO-BC, CPHQ, nursing quality specialist at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and overseen by the research team at SMH’s Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute, the year-long study is one of the first in the U.S. to test the benefits of companion robotic pets as a complementary, non-pharmacological approach to dementia care in the acute-care hospital setting.
Compared with a control group of older patients with mild to moderate dementia who received just the standard of care, researchers said those who had the companionship of a robotic pet during their hospital stay experienced meaningful benefits, including fewer drops in blood pressure and heart rate, fewer episodes that can lead to fall risks, shorter hospital stays and a higher likelihood of returning home rather than to assisted living or skilled nursing care after hospitalization.

From Highway to Cath Lab in Minutes: Swift Action Saves Life at HCA Florida Westside Hospital
FEBRUARY 17, 2026- A Fort Lauderdale business owner is crediting rapid decision-making and coordinated cardiovascular care at HCA Florida Westside Hospital for saving his life after experiencing a sudden cardiac emergency during his morning commute.
While driving on the Sawgrass Expressway toward I-595, the patient began experiencing shortness of breath that quickly escalated to severe chest pressure.
“At first I thought it was stress,” he said. “Then it felt like someone dropped a brick on my chest. Then it doubled. Then it doubled again.”
Recognizing the severity of his symptoms, he searched for the nearest hospital using his GPS. The estimated arrival time to HCA Florida Westside Hospital was nine minutes. He arrived in six.
Upon arrival at the emergency department, clinical staff rapidly initiated cardiac protocols. The patient was triaged immediately, placed on monitors, and evaluated by the emergency team. Within 20 minutes, he was transferred to the cardiac catheterization laboratory for urgent intervention.

Envoy Medical Nears Completion of Enrollment in Pivotal Clinical Trial of Fully Implanted Acclaim(R) Cochlear Implant
45 of 56 Patients Implanted; Enrollment Completion Anticipated by End of March

Biomarker also directs some patients to alternative therapy and highlights population-specific differences between Asian and European tumors
Researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have developed a new computational approach designed to better account for changes in gene expression within tumors relative to their unique microenvironments. This approach outperformed current methods for predicting chemotherapy response in patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).
The new tool, developed by Wenyi Wang, Ph.D., professor of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and colleagues, was published today in Cell Reports Medicine. It aims to improve upon similar methods to predict treatment responses using an approach known as deconvolution, which involves breaking down, calculating and interpreting cellular differences. This approach also revealed novel insights into population-level characteristics of TNBC.
