“Our vascular surgery program’s verification by the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery recognizes our commitment to delivering the highest standards of evidence-based, patient-centered vascular care and continuous quality improvement,” said Memorial Division of Vascular Surgery Chief Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez Zoppi. “It will also foster innovation by promoting the exchange of current and evolving scientific knowledge, surgical techniques, and best practices in vascular surgery

Tampa General Hospital’s Standout Bariatric Center Earns Full Reaccreditation for Adult and Adolescent Obesity Program

July 30, 2025  – Tampa General Hospital (TGH) today announced that the TGH+USF Health Bariatric Center has earned its sixth consecutive accreditation as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). MBSAQIP is a joint program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) that sets national standards for bariatric surgery centers with a goal of advancing safe, high-quality care for metabolic surgery patients. TGH is one of only two hospitals in Florida, and one of only 40 in the nation, that is accredited as a comprehensive center in bariatric surgery, adolescent and obesity medicine qualifications.

“Tampa General’s weight loss programs have a track record of innovation, positive outcomes, and excellent patient safety protocols, and we are proud to be among the few accredited MBSAQIP programs that recognizes our qualifications in bariatric surgery as well as adolescent and obesity medicine,” said Dr. Lindsay Wiles, medical director of the obesity medicine program at the TGH+USF Health Bariatric Center. “This achievement is a reflection of our team’s high-quality metabolic and bariatric programming and commitment to supporting as many patients as possible, including those deemed high-risk.”

To be accredited, a bariatric surgery center must undergo an independent, voluntary and rigorous peer evaluation as well as a site visit, in accordance with nationally recognized bariatric surgical standards. Site reviewers perform an in-depth review of at least 10 complication charts during an accreditation site visit. Achieving accreditation indicates that the program meets specific MBSAQIP standards for clinical outcomes and patient care capabilities. The accreditation program promotes uniform quality and safety standards across the industry and recognizes centers that have demonstrated continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Lee Health is Proud All Four Adult Acute Care Hospitals Have Earned Four Stars in the Annual CMS Quality Star Ratings

Aug. 7, 2025 — Patient safety and the highest quality of care are Lee Health’s top priorities, and the health system is pleased to announce that all four of its adult acute care hospitals have been named four-star hospitals by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Four stars is one of the highest accolades in the annual rating system.

All four Lee Health adult acute care facilities have ranked among the leading hospitals in the nation with four-star or better for the last three rating periods. Children’s hospitals are not included in this ranking system.

“At Lee Health, we continuously strive to provide the safest, highest level of compassionate patient care possible, and we are proud to be among some of the most advanced and top-tier health systems in the industry,” said Dr. Larry Antonucci, President and CEO of Lee Health. “These ratings always push us to improve our already high standard of care and we will continue to do that while providing the best possible experience for the Southwest Florida community.

The CMS overall star rating is based on how a hospital performs across different areas of quality, such as treating heart attacks and pneumonia, readmission rates, and safety of care. The rating shows how individual hospitals perform compared to all hospitals across the country.
