Rick Case Automotive Group and American Heart Association Donate 250 CPR Anytime Kits to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Broward Health

Infant, child and adult kits were distributed

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. February 24, 2025 – In recognition of Heart Month in February, the American Heart Association (AHA) with support from Rick Case Automotive Group gifted 250 CPR Anytime Training Kits to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and Broward Health.

“Our goal is to make sure that every family can go home with one of these CPR kits so they can save their child’s life if they needed to because they’ll have the equipment, tools and training right at home,” said Rita Case, President and CEO of Rick Case Automotive Group. “What inspired me are the facts that 90% of people—infants, adults, children—all ages that have a cardiac arrest outside the hospital die. If they’re administered CPR within the first few minutes, it doubles and triples the chance of survival. Up to 80% survive, so when you go from 90% passing away to 80% survival with a 30-minute training kit, I said, ‘I have to be involved in this.’”

The constant fear of the next attack, the pain that forces individuals to forgo commitments and plans, and the frustration of feeling trapped in a condition invisible to others are all too familiar to those living with migraine.

Thanks to advancements in preventive therapies, such as calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) pathway inhibitors and other innovative therapies, it is now possible to move beyond simply reducing the frequency of attacks and instead aim for the complete resolution of the disease’s manifestations.

New drug may reduce need for aortic valve surgeries by slowing disease progression

ROCHESTER, Minn. – February 24 ,2025 — Aortic valve stenosis (AVS) is a significant health concern affecting over 1.5 million Americans and millions more globally. Researchers at Mayo Clinic are exploring the use of a new drug called ataciguat to manage AVS. Results from preclinical and clinical studies, published in Circulation, show that ataciguat has the potential to significantly slow disease progression. The final step to establish the drug’s long-term effectiveness and safety is a phase 3 trial, and efforts to launch that pivotal trial are soon to be underway with an industry partner.

Illustration of healthy and diseased aortic valves
In AVS, calcium deposits build up and narrow the aortic valve, forcing the heart to work harder to move blood. The condition typically progresses over time, with symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath and fatigue affecting people over age 65. The current standard of care — watchful waiting — often leads to reduced quality of life before the condition is severe enough for the patient to have a surgical or interventional valve replacement.

This course is for family caregivers like you!

This six-week class series gives you the confidence and support to better care for your loved one – and yourself. For information about the PTC program visit powerfultoolsforcaregivers.org

Space is limited. Registration required.

March 4 – Class 1: Taking Care of You
This class sets the stage for the entire course. It emphasizes that the focus is on you as a caregiver, not on the family member receiving care, and that caregivers will develop a self-care tool box. The challenges of caregiving are significant. Beginning in this class, caregivers make a weekly commitment to self-care.

March 11 – Class 2: Identifying and Reducing Personal Stress
Four steps are presented for effective stress management: (1) Identifying early warning signs, (2) Identifying personal sources of stress, (3) Accepting what you cannot change, and (4) Taking action. Tools to reduce stress are discussed. Participants learn how to change negative self-talk – which increases stress and erodes confidence – to positive self-talk. Beginning in this class, caregivers learn five relaxation activities that are easy to incorporate into their daily lives.
