Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Among First in the Nation to Implant Novel Pulmonary Valve for Patients with Congenital Heart Disease
July 28, 2026– Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital are advancing congenital heart care by completing their first implantation of the innovative VenusP-Valve System, a minimally invasive treatment option for patients who need pulmonary valve replacement. Memorial Healthcare System is the only hospital system in the Southeast United States and just the fifth in the nation with approval to use the VenusP-Valve System, offering new hope for children and adults with complex congenital heart disease.
The procedure was performed in Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory as part of an early feasibility clinical trial evaluating the next-generation transcatheter pulmonary valve. Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital are part of only 10 institutions in the United States selected to participate in the groundbreaking research.

HCA Healthcare Announces Dr. Michael Schlosser as Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer; Names Charles Gressle President of New Ambulatory Operations Group
August 6, 2026 – HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA) today announced that Michael Schlosser, M.D., MBA, senior vice president and chief transformation officer, has been appointed executive vice president and chief clinical officer, effective Sept. 1, 2026.
Also, effective Sept. 1, Charles Gressle, president of HCA Healthcare’s East Florida Division, has been appointed president of HCA Healthcare’s new Ambulatory Operations Group.
Dr. Schlosser will succeed Dr. Michael Cuffe, who announced in June that he will step down as executive vice president and chief clinical officer, effective Aug. 31.
In his new role, Dr. Schlosser will report to Sam Hazen, chief executive officer of HCA Healthcare, and assume responsibility for the company’s Clinical Services Group, which includes Quality, hospital Chief Medical Officers, Nursing, Graduate Medical Education, Hospital Based Services and other enterprise clinical functions. He will continue to lead HCA Healthcare’s Digital Transformation and Innovation organization and oversee the company’s clinical informatics organization and enterprise strategy for electronic health records, digital technologies and data platforms.
“Mike is a trusted physician leader whose experience and commitment to our mission have strengthened our organization,” said Hazen. “He has played an important role in advancing our clinical and digital capabilities, and his expanded responsibilities will extend the impact of that work more fully across HCA Healthcare as we continue integrating innovation, AI technology solutions and clinical excellence to improve care for our patients.”
Searches for successors to Dr. Schlosser’s and Gressle’s current roles are underway.

A spectacular 500-drone light show transformed the Downtown Miami skyline into a patriotic visual tribute featuring the Cuban and American flags, tracing LMC’s history from its founding, through its state-of-the-art expansion, to a roaring lion symbolizing the Leon name. The display culminated in a fireworks-style finale, created entirely by drones and synchronized to music.

Tampa General Hospital Crystal River Earns Latest Renewal of Chest Pain Center Reaccreditation from the American College of Cardiology
National recognition affirms TGH Crystal River’s sustained commitment to delivering rapid, lifesaving cardiac care for residents of Citrus County and surrounding communities.
AUGUST 5, 2026 – Tampa General Hospital Crystal River has earned its latest renewal of Chest Pain Center Reaccreditation with Primary PCI from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), a nationally recognized distinction reflecting the hospital’s continued delivery of high-quality, evidence-based cardiac care. The hospital first applied for Chest Pain Center Accreditation in December 2016 and, following the ACC’s initial application and site review process, received accreditation recognition in 2018. Since then, the hospital has maintained the credential through successive renewal cycles. The latest renewal extends the hospital’s accreditation through June 2029.
Primary PCI, or Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, is a minimally invasive procedure used to quickly open blocked coronary arteries during a heart attack. Often referred to as emergency angioplasty, the procedure restores blood flow to the heart, minimizing damage to the heart muscle and improving patient outcomes. Reaccreditation with Primary PCI recognizes hospitals that maintain the personnel, processes and capabilities necessary to deliver this time-sensitive treatment consistently and at the highest standard.

State of Florida invests $2 million to expand FIU’s personalized cancer treatment program
State funding will expand FIU’s functional precision medicine program to treat more children and adults with advanced cancers
August 6, 2026 – A $2 million investment from the Florida Legislature will expand FIU’s Functional Oncology Rapid Cancer Elimination (myFORCE) Program, giving more cancer patients access to personalized treatment recommendations based on how their own tumor cells respond to FDA-approved therapies.
As part of the FIU Center for Advancing Personalized Cancer Treatments (CAPCT), myFORCE is dedicated to finding the right treatment for each individual patient by testing therapies directly against that patient’s own cancer cells. Led by FIU’s Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work professor and researcher Diana Azzam, the program is designed to help physicians identify effective — and often less toxic — treatment options for patients whose cancers have returned, resisted treatment or exhausted standard therapies.
“Every family deserves hope in the fight against cancer, and I am proud to have secured this funding to support FIU’s Functional Oncology Rapid Cancer Elimination (myFORCE) Program, an initiative advancing personalized treatment options for pediatric and adult cancer patients,” said Florida state Senator Alexis Calatayud. “By investing in groundbreaking research here in Miami, we are empowering scientists to accelerate lifesaving discoveries and transform the lives of families across Florida.”

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is Only Hospital Between Miami and Orlando to Utilize Innovative Imaging Agent to Improve Detection of Certain Bladder Cancers
Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview® Can Detect More Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer Tumors Than Use of Standard Diagnostic Technology
August 6, 2026 – Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center is the only hospital between Miami and Orlando to offer Blue Light Cystoscopy(BLC) with Cysview® (hexaminolevulinate hydrochloride). Cysview is an FDA-approved, optical imaging agent that makes nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer glow bright pink in blue light so urologists can see tumors better.
“Bladder cancer is difficult to detect and has a high rate of recurrence. Incomplete tumor removal and an inaccurate diagnosis can result in incomplete treatment. In addition, patients may experience serious complications and a lower chance of survival if they have aggressive tumors that get missed,” said Dr. Sean L. Sawh, urologic surgeon from Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. “Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview represents an important advancement in diagnostic technology, enabling more accurate diagnosis of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer compared to the standard technique.”
Cysview is indicated for use in the cystoscopic detection of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), including carcinoma in situ (CIS), among patients suspected or known to have lesion(s) because of a prior cystoscopy. Bladder cancer is the seventh most common cancer in the United States. Estimates state that more than 80,000 new cases of bladder cancer were diagnosed in the U.S. in 2022. Up to 50% of NMIBC patients will have bladder cancer recur.

RCASF Event Raises $220,000 to Help Make-A-Wish Improve the Lives of Sick Kids and Families
AUGUST 7, 2026 – Four-year-old Beau Tripp may be too young to understand the community that has mobilized around him as he battles health issues, but the Roofing Contractors Association of South Florida (RCASF) has demonstrated they are squarely by his side.
The nonprofit organization recently hosted Tripp and his family at their 47th annual fishing tournament in Islamorada, an event that raised $220,000 to help Make-A-Wish® Southern Florida grant life-changing wishes for critically-ill children. The Pembroke Pines resident, who recently underwent a kidney transplant, had his wish to visit Florida theme parks underwritten by CL Burks Construction, one of the many companies within the association committed to making a child’s dream come true by sponsoring their wish.
To date, more than $2.3 million has been raised by local roofing contractors through the partnership with Make-A-Wish Southern Florida.

Aug. 5, 2026 – Crisis Prevention & Empowerment (CPE), a nonprofit dedicated to providing free and affordable mental health support throughout Southwest Florida, has received a $2,500 grant from the Zonta Foundation of Southwest Florida, the philanthropic arm of the Zonta Club of Fort Myers.
The awarded funds will strengthen CPE’s crisis intervention, wrap-around behavioral health case management, peer support, health education and referral services. With the support of CPE’s services, individuals are empowered to transition from immediate crisis and limited access to care toward longer-term stability and connection.

Lee Health: Free Autism Screening for Young Children
August 3, 2026 — Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida offers free monthly autism spectrum disorder screenings for toddlers 18 months to five years of age.
The next screenings will be held on Aug. 12 and Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Pediatric Specialist Office, 15901 Bass Road, Suite 102, Fort Myers.
It is estimated that one in every 31 children is diagnosed with some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined.
