Celebrating 25 Years of Bright Beginnings: Jupiter Medical Center Celebrates Silver Anniversary of Obstetrics Unit
Jupiter, FL – January 15, 2025 – Jupiter Medical Center recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Florence A. De George Children’s & Women’s Services obstetrics unit, previously known as the Bright Beginnings Birthing Suites. For a quarter of a century, this unit has been a cornerstone of care in Jupiter and its neighboring communities, offering a warm and nurturing environment for mothers and babies.
The unit first opened on November 30, 1999, with 12 delivery suites, a classroom for mother and baby classes, a children’s play area, and a conference room. In the first month, it welcomed around 30 babies into the world—a number that has grown exponentially over the years. By the end of its first year, the unit had celebrated the births of 558 babies. Today, Jupiter Medical Center delivers more than 2,500 babies annually, supported by a 24/7 OB emergency department and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The obstetrics program proudly includes a team of 35 dedicated obstetricians and gynecologists, many of which have cared for families since the program’s inception.
“At the time, it was a big step for the community of Jupiter,” says Jeffery Litt, MD, FACOG, who was the first chairman of obstetrics and played a pivotal role in planning and designing the suites. “I was invited to serve as the physician consultant, assisting with the planning and design concept. It’s truly remarkable to witness the journey from the initial design phase to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and now celebrating its 25th anniversary. Just seeing how far we’ve come is incredible.”

The Role of Cloud-Based Isolated Recovery Environments in Healthcare Cybersecurity
By Alfredo Cepero
Healthcare organizations are a prime target for cyberattacks due to the high quantity of sensitive data they manage. The healthcare industry faces the most expensive data breach recoveries worldwide, with average recovery costs of $9.77 million. The extensive downtime caused by some cyberattacks can also severely disrupt patient care, making it imperative for healthcare providers to adopt robust strategies to mitigate these risks.
One avenue for healthcare organizations to combat cyber risk is through an isolated recovery environment (IRE) for electronic health record (EHR) systems. This approach not only provides insurance against potential cyber threats but also reduces disruption to patient care.
The Power of Cloud-Based Isolated Recovery Environments
A cloud-based IRE is a separate network located on the cloud that allows businesses to back up and restore critical data and systems in the event of a cyberattack or other system disruption. Basing your IRE in the cloud offers a simple yet powerful way to isolate your on-premises data center while saving on costs by using on-demand resources only when the system is in use or undergoing maintenance. This flexibility allows for efficient resource management and reduces unnecessary expenditures.
Leveraging Infrastructure-as-a-Service
Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), a type of cloud computing service that offers IT resources on demand, plays a crucial role in enhancing healthcare system resilience. By leveraging IaaS, organizations can make the most of their existing staff and security operations centers (SOC) monitoring teams, which can shorten delays in enacting security measures should the main environment become compromised. IaaS also allows healthcare providers to maintain autonomy over their systems and data, enabling organizations to conduct planned maintenance downtimes and testing according to their own timelines, while also allowing them to use their existing OpenID Connect (OIDC) supportive two-factor authentication.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – January 20, 2025 – Premier Mobile Health Services, a nonprofit health clinic that brings essential medical care to those in need across Lee County, is growing its footprint with a new location in Immokalee.
The Collier County expansion comes thanks to a $30,000 grant from the Moorings Park Foundation, the charitable arm of the Naples-based retirement community.
That support will enable Premier Mobile Health Services to provide free health screenings and education on disease prevention in the rural agricultural community east of Naples, with an emphasis on those who are 60 and older.
This month, the mobile clinic will visit Immokalee on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 201 S. 3rd St. Walk-ins are welcome.
“From diabetes prevention to cardiac health, there’s a critical need for accessible, preventive medical care in Immokalee,” said Dr. Nadine “Deanie” Singh, CEO of Premier Mobile Health Services. “We’re deeply appreciative for the Moorings Park Foundation’s support, enabling us to further assist the medically vulnerable across Southwest Florida.”

NCH Performs Florida’s First Endoscopic Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) Treatment
Naples, FL, January 21, 2025 —Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH) is proud to announce that it is the first in Florida to provide Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) ablation, a groundbreaking treatment for patients with tumors. This milestone highlights NCH’s leadership in advancing cancer care in the state.
The FDA-cleared Aliya® PEF System uses high-frequency, short-duration pulsed electric fields to ablate soft tissue with unparalleled precision and allows the opportunity to treat the area at the time of biopsy. By preserving healthy tissue and avoiding thermal injury, this approach significantly reduces recovery times and improves outcomes for patients with complex tumors.
This innovative procedure, performed using the Aliya® PEF System developed by Galvanize Therapeutics, is distinguished by its high safety profile and its ability to stimulate the immune system by releasing tumor antigens as cells are ablated. This immune response can potentially protect the patient from tumor growth, even at other locations. Additionally, PEF minimizes collateral damage, making it a safer option for treating tumors located near major blood vessels and airways.
The procedure was conducted by Dr. David Lindner, pulmonologist at NCH, in collaboration with oncologist, Dr. Stephen Newman. Together, they have brought this advanced therapy to Southwest Florida, setting the stage for its broader adoption across the state.

HCI College Celebrates Notable Year of Growth in Nursing and Healthcare Education
~ Achieves ACEN Accreditation, Expands Partnerships, and Strengthens Community Impact ~
January 21, 2025 – West Palm Beach, Fla. – HCI College celebrates a year of significant achievements and milestones that underscore its commitment to providing quality educational programs, professional development, and community engagement.
ACEN Accreditation: A Major Milestone
In October, HCI College’s Associate Degree in Nursing program at the West Palm Beach campus earned initial accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This achievement places HCI College among the select percentage of nursing programs that meet ACEN’s standards. Notably, according to data from the Florida Department of Health, out of 183 associate degree nursing programs in Florida, only 38 (approximately 21%) hold ACEN accreditation.
“Receiving ACEN accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our faculty and students, as well as our commitment to excellence in nursing education,” said Celeste Blackwell, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer.
This accreditation benefits students by improving eligibility for funding support from federal and state agencies, and scholarship programs, streamlining credit transfers, and elevating employer confidence in the quality of HCI College’s graduates.

NAACOS Statement on Bill Addressing Challenges of Digital Quality Reporting
Attributed to Aisha Pittman, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs of the National Association of ACOs
JANUARY 21, 2025 – “NAACOS applauds Representatives Buchanan, Crenshaw, and Panetta for their leadership in introducing the Healthcare Efficiency Through Flexibility Act, a critical step toward ensuring a smooth and equitable transition to digital quality measurement within the ACO program.
“Digital quality measurement holds great promise for advancing population health by enabling seamless, real-time performance measurement. However, current CMS requirements pose significant challenges, as compiling data across diverse physician groups and hospitals—each operating with different EHR systems—remains a complex and costly endeavor.
“This legislation addresses these longstanding obstacles raised by NAACOS members by requiring CMS to pilot-test reporting approaches and delaying mandatory electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) reporting until 2030. These provisions will provide ACOs with the necessary time and resources to adapt effectively while ensuring quality improvement remains at the forefront of care delivery.”
