TGH Burn Center Earns Prestigious Reverification from American Burn Association

The recognition for excellence in adult and pediatric care underscores the role as a regional leader in advanced burn treatment and academic medicine.

June 26, 2026– Tampa General Hospital (TGH) in partnership with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine has once again earned verification from the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons for the TGH Burn Center: A TECO Partnership. The recognition affirms the hospital’s commitment to providing the highest level of care for patients with complex burn injuries by upholding rigorous national standards across the full continuum of burn care, including emergency treatment, surgery, critical care and rehabilitation.

“This reverification underscores the expertise of our multidisciplinary team and our ongoing commitment to delivering advanced, patient-centered care,” said Dr. Nicholas J. Panetta, chief of the Tampa General Hospital Plastic Surgery Institute and Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. “At Tampa General, we are proud to serve as a regional leader in burn care, providing specialized treatment and comprehensive support for patients and families at every stage of recovery.”

The TGH Burn Center is one of only six burn centers in Florida to receive reverification and remains one of just two in the state verified to care for both adult and pediatric patients. This elite designation reflects the center’s adherence to rigorous national standards for patient care, staffing, infrastructure and outcomes.

New Avenir campus expands access to emergency and specialty care in fast-growing region

June 25, 2026 – Yesterday, Jupiter Medical Center (JMC), the region’s only independent, not-for-profit health system, broke ground on its second hospital, marking a significant expansion of access to high-quality care across western Palm Beach County. The “Jupiter Medical Center Neighborhood Hospital at The Health Park at Avenir” is designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population, bringing emergency and specialty services closer to where patients live and work.

The 53,000-square-foot hospital will include 29 inpatient beds, four operating rooms, 24-hour emergency services, a diagnostic laboratory, and imaging services. It will be adjacent to a three-story, 47,000-square-foot medical office building dedicated to Jupiter Medical Center physicians, including primary care, concierge medicine, orthopedics, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonary and general surgery. Both facilities are expected to open in early 2028.

“Today is a proud and historic moment for Jupiter Medical Center and for the communities we serve,” said Amit Rastogi, MD, MHCM, President and CEO of Jupiter Medical Center. “Breaking ground on the second hospital in our health system’s history represents a defining step in our continued growth and our mission to expand access to the highest-quality care across our region. As western Palm Beach County continues to grow, this new campus will allow us to bring advanced emergency, surgical, and specialty care closer to home for patients and families, while strengthening the seamless continuum of care that defines Jupiter Medical Center.”

HCA FLORIDA PALMS WEST HOSPITAL NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE IN STROKE CARE

The American Heart Association presents Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke: Gold Plus award for demonstrating commitment to delivering evidence-based, life-saving stroke care

June 25, 2026 – HCA Florida Palms West Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke: Gold Plus quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring people experiencing stroke receive timely, appropriate treatment based on nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately helping to save lives and reduce disability.

Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S, according to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel supplying the brain is blocked by a clot or ruptures, preventing blood and oxygen from reaching brain tissue. When this happens, brain cells begin to die. Early detection and rapid treatment are critical to improving survival, minimizing disability and supporting faster recovery.

HSS Study Reveals How Early-Life Cellular Process Helps Shape Lifelong Immune Health

Study identifies a previously unknown role for skin immune cells in building the lymphatic system that supports immune function throughout life
June 26, 2026 -Researchers at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) have uncovered a critical link between the immune system in early life and its function in adulthood. The study, published in Science Immunology, identifies a new role for specialized skin immune cells, called Langerhans cells, in shaping the development of lymphatic vessels—an essential part of the body’s immune network.

Lymphatic vessels act as communication highways, carrying signals from tissues to the immune system to alert it to infection, injury, or disease. When this system does not function properly, the body may struggle to fight infections, respond to vaccines, repair tissue, or control inflammation.

The new findings show that Langerhans cells play a key role during early life by helping lymphatic vessels grow and develop properly in the skin. This early “setup” has long-term consequences, influencing how well the immune system functions later in life.

International Study Reveals How the Brain Senses Movement

Findings from Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and Cleveland Clinic may pave the way for improvements in prosthetic limbs

June 24, 2026 – PISA, Italy, and CLEVELAND, Ohio: A research team led by Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic has uncovered new insight into how the brain senses movement. Their findings, published in Science Advances, could potentially help improve sensation and movement for prosthetic limbs.

By combining data from the world’s only two neural-machine interfaces designed to restore kinesthetic sensation – or the sense of movement – in upper limb prosthetics, the researchers found that the brain appears to process this information not as isolated signals, but as coordinated hand grasp movement patterns, or “synergies.”

An Evening of Hope Celebrating 25 Years of Compassion and Saving Lives

For 25 years, A Safe Haven for Newborns has stood as a beacon of hope for mothers in crisis and a lifeline for vulnerable newborns. What began as Nick’s deeply personal journey to heal a broken heart and honor the memory of his beloved wife, Gloria, following her tragic passing, has grown into an internationally recognized organization dedicated to preventing infant abandonment and providing support, counseling, and critical resources to women facing the overwhelming reality of an unplanned pregnancy. From its beginnings, the mission has been rooted in compassion, dignity, and love — offering hope, protection, and a path forward during life’s most difficult moments.

Over the past quarter century, countless lives have been touched through the organization’s unwavering commitment to offering safe, legal, and anonymous options for mothers seeking help. Through advocacy, education, community partnerships, and around-the-clock support, A Safe Haven for Newborns has continued to remind women that they are never alone. To date, 441 newborns have been given a chance at life — 431 in Florida; nine in other states, and one in Honduras.

This milestone anniversary is more than a celebration of years — it is a celebration of lives, second chances, and the power of compassion to change the future. We invite you to join us in celebrating our Silver Jubilee by visiting our website and selecting a sponsorship opportunity. Or, contact Nick Silverio at safehaven@asafehavenfornewborns.com; 305-882-1304 x103 for more information.
