NCH Becomes First U.S. Hospital to Use AI That Detects Hidden Heart Attack Risk a Decade in Advance
Landmark collaboration with Caristo Diagnostics positions NCH at the forefront of preventive cardiology
NCH cardiologists to present collaboration plans at American Heart Association 2025 Scientific Sessions on Nov. 8
November 5, 2025 — Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH) and Caristo Diagnostics announced that NCH Rooney Heart Institute has become the first hospital in the nation to use both CaRi-Plaque™ and CaRi-Heart®, two AI-powered imaging-based technologies that identify signs of heart disease and predict a patient’s risk of heart attack up to 10 years before symptoms appear.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the use of artificial intelligence to prevent cardiovascular disease, shifting the focus from reacting to heart attacks to stopping them before they happen.
Caristo’s FDA-cleared CaRi-Plaque™ technology analyzes coronary CT angiography (CCTA) scans, the first-line test for patients with chest pain, to identify high-risk plaque that may lead to future heart attacks. CaRi-Heart™ is the only technology in the world able to detect and quantify coronary inflammation, an early driver of heart disease, without waiting for patients to develop visible plaque.
Current clinical pathways often fail to identify high risk patients by missing inflammatory disease activity and relying on plaque assessment alone. In fact, twice as many fatal and non-fatal cardiac events occur in patients without obstructive plaque on CCTA.

New Nanoparticle Therapy Shrinks Pancreatic Tumors and Extends Survival in Preclinical Study
Experimental, drug-free, MRI-guided cancer treatment may one day offer a way of targeting and destroying pancreatic tumors without surgery or chemotherapy
November 4, 2025 – A new study has found for the first time that magnetoelectric nanoparticles — tiny, wirelessly controlled particles activated by magnetic fields — can both locate and destroy pancreatic tumors in preclinical models, offering a potential new approach to minimally invasively treating one of the deadliest cancers. The study was led by scientists and engineers at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the University of Miami College of Engineering, Moffitt Cancer Center and Cellular Nanomed, Inc. The findings appear in the Nov. 3, 2025, issue of Advanced Science.
In the study, a single intravenous dose of these magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs), when activated by a magnetic field inside an MRI machine, caused pancreatic tumors to shrink to one-third their size and completely disappear in one-third of the treated models. The treatment also more than doubled survival time, all without damaging healthy organs.
Unlike chemotherapy or surgery, this approach uses no drugs, heat, or invasive procedures. Instead, MENPs are injected into the bloodstream, guided by a small magnet to the tumor site, and then activated by the magnetic field of a standard MRI scanner. When switched “on,” the particles generate tiny electric fields that disrupt cancer cell membranes and trigger natural cell death — leaving nearby healthy tissue unharmed.
The approach could overcome key limits of existing electric-field-based therapies, such as tumor treating fields (TTFs) and irreversible electroporation (IRE), which require either wearable devices or surgical electrodes.

Bob Woodruff Foundation Donates $100,000 to Expand Recovery for Veterans at Hanley Foundation
The grant will support Hanley Foundation’s Patriots Initiative to provide veterans with affordable care for mental health and addiction treatment.
November 3, 2025 ─ In support of our nation’s heroes, the Bob Woodruff Foundation has granted $100,000 to expand treatment for veterans through Hanley Foundation’s Patriots Initiative. The grant will specifically help veterans who do not have the financial means to receive quality care for mental health and substance use disorders.
Hanley Foundation launched its Patriots Initiative in 2024 to provide trauma-informed, mental health and addiction treatment to veterans. The specialized inpatient and outpatient program navigates the unique stresses of veterans’ service and puts them in a safe, understanding, and compassionate environment.
“Hanley Foundation acknowledges that the veteran population experiences unique challenges in the behavioral health space due to the nature of their occupation and experiences,” said Rachel Docekal, CEO of Hanley Foundation. “We consider what each individual needs to succeed, whether that is specialized therapy, family therapy, holistic therapies, vocational training, housing assistance, and more.”
In the United States, approximately 38% of veterans have been diagnosed with substance use disorder (SUD) and 5.2 million experience behavioral health conditions. Veterans face a heightened risk of developing substance use disorders and mental health issues due to the psychological effects of military service, reintegration, combat trauma, occupational trauma, and excessive stress.
