NICVIEW CAMERA SYSTEM HAS OVER 100,000 VIEWS SINCE LAUNCH OF PROGRAM

September 14, 2023—After being the first hospital in Palm Beach County to acquire the NICVIEW 2™ system in February 2021, West Boca Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cameras have earned more than 100,000 views.

This live streaming camera system keeps parents and family members always connected to their baby. The password-protected camera provides parents of newborns in the NICU with guarded virtual access.

Our hospital is the only one in Boca Raton that has a Level III NICU, the highest level of care possible.

“Knowing our NICVIEW cameras are being used is incredibly gratifying,” said Libby Flippo, interim CEO at West Boca Medical Center.  “It can be extremely overwhelming for parents when their baby is admitted to the NICU. These cameras have helped ease the minds of parents whose baby is in our NICU.”

MOODY’S INVESTORS SERVICE UPGRADES BROWARD HEALTH’S REVENUE BOND RATING

September 15, 2023- . – Moody’s Investors Service raised its revenue bond rating to Baa1 from Baa2 for the North Broward Hospital District, which operates as Broward Health.

The rating reflects Broward Health’s “durability of margins and liquidity,” as well as its efforts to grow and diversify revenue by expanding retail pharmacy and other business lines, according to a recent press release issued by Moody’s.

Moody’s rated Broward Health’s financial outlook as stable and considered the health system’s standing in Broward County.

“North Broward Hospital District’s essentiality as the county’s safety net provider and its tertiary service array will continue to drive good patient demand and volumes, further undergirding its essentiality,” Moody’s reported.

CALL FOR CASE MANAGEMENT PROFILES

Since 2004, we have provided a media platform to the Hospital and Healthcare Community to publicly salute their healthcare family. In these issues, we ask the hospital and healthcare industry to support our organization and newspaper by placing ads that “thank their staff for an excellent job”, and the message is then broadcast to the entire healthcare community in South Florida.

We also encourage the healthcare community to submit two staff profiles per facility location regardless of possible advertising.

In October we are Saluting Case Management Professionals

AFTER A RARE DIAGNOSIS AND BRAIN SURGERY AS A KINDERGARTENER, KAI MAKES A REMARKABLE RECOVERY

September 14, 2023 – Watching 6-year-old Kai Bradley zip through a physical therapy session doing lunges, planks and squats while smiling and giggling, it’s impossible to tell that just a few months ago he was recovering from surgery to remove a large mass in his brain and was unable to walk.

Kai, who has a big smile and an even bigger personality, likes to make his physical therapists laugh.

“He has always been a very happy and energetic little boy,” said his mom, Maribell Cruz of Tamarac. “He loves to play and is a big fan of Power Rangers, dinosaurs, and cars.”

He was sailing through kindergarten last year – learning, growing, making new friends and playing on a flag football team for the first time – when his family’s life came to a halt.

CAR-T CELL RESEARCHERS AT MAYO CLINIC OPTIMISTIC ABOUT FUTURE OF TREATING BLOOD CANCERS

September 14, 2023  – ROCHESTER, Minn. — Survival outcomes using chimeric antigen receptor-T cell therapy (CAR-T cell therapy) continue to be impressive for patients with some blood cancers.

“Five years ago, the survival rate for people with blood cancers was 10% to 15%. Nowadays, we are seeing a survival rate of 40%. The job is not done yet,” says Mohamed Kharfan Dabaja, M.D., a hematologist and director of blood marrow and transplantation and cellular therapies at Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. “We need to continue to bring new therapies, and to understand not only why it is not working on a certain patient but why it is in others and that will bring new knowledge about how to improve treating blood cancers.”

WHAT IS CAR-T CELL THERAPY?
Immunotherapy uses the body’s immune system to fight cancer. CAR-T cell therapy is a form of immunotherapy in which healthcare professionals remove a person’s T cells — white blood cells known as lymphocytes that are involved in the immune system response — and genetically modify them to produce chimeric antigen receptors (CARs). These CAR-T cells are then infused back into the patient’s bloodstream, where they target and destroy cancer cells. CAR-T cell therapy is used primarily for blood cancers like multiple myeloma, leukemias and lymphomas.

NAACOS LARGELY SUPPORTS PROPOSED CHANGES TO MEDICARE’S LARGEST ACO PROGRAM

Highlights

CMS has heard concerns raised by NAACOS and ACOs and has proposed several changes to the MSSP that would benefit the program, patients and taxpayers.

NAACOS was especially pleased to see proposals to cap the risk score of an ACO’s region, use the same risk model in the benchmark and performance years, and offer a new quality reporting option for ACOs.

NAACOS offered a few ways that CMS can further accomplish its goal of increasing ACO participation and the number of beneficiaries in accountable care models.

September 15, 2023 – NAACOS has been advocating for several changes to the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). We push for policies we feel would increase participation in accountable care organizations (ACOs) and help CMS reach its stated goal of having all Medicare beneficiaries in a relationship accountable for quality and total cost of care by 2030. Thankfully, CMS has heard concerns raised by NAACOS and ACOs and has proposed several changes to the MSSP that would benefit the program, patients and taxpayers. NAACOS supported many of these policies and others in comments submitted this week to the proposed 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. Below are key proposals that we support.
