VITAS Healthcare, Leading Hospice Provider, Named a 2025 Top Workplace in Healthcare by Top Workplaces USA
September 25, 2025 – VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of end-of-life care, has been named a 2025 Top Workplace in Healthcare by Top Workplaces USA, a national program that honors organizations based solely on employee feedback. VITAS is one of only 57 healthcare organizations nationwide with more than 1,000 employees to receive this distinction.
The award reflects VITAS’ ongoing commitment to fostering a purpose-driven culture that supports its employees and enhances the quality of hospice and palliative care delivered to patients and families.
“This honor belongs to our employees,” said Ava Padmore-Lewis, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for VITAS. “Their compassion, dedication and purpose-driven work are what make VITAS a special place for patients, families and each other. I am proud of the culture they have created and the difference they make every day.”
Employee voices were central to the recognition, underscoring the organization’s longstanding commitment to its people and mission. VITAS team members were invited to share their experiences in a confidential survey earlier this year. Responses measured key drivers of engaged workplace cultures, including alignment, connection and purpose.
One anonymous employee stated, “I’m in love with the culture at VITAS. The mentality to help each other makes you feel like you’re never alone. To be able to work with leaders who will listen to your concerns and help you work through those concerns is truly one of a kind.”

UPDATED NEWS INFORMATION FROM THE LAST FOUR DAYS IN SOUTH FLORIDA |
AMA urges DHS to exempt physicians from new $100,000 H-1B visa fee
SEPTEMBER 25, 2025 – The American Medical Association (AMA) and 53 leading medical societies urged the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to exempt physicians from the newly announced $100,000 H-1B visa application fee.
In their letter (PDF), the groups called on DHS to issue guidance clarifying that physicians, residents, and fellows are essential to maintaining a strong health care workforce and should be categorically exempt from the fee. The AMA is eager to collaborate with the administration to ensure that patients don’t lose access to care.
“The U.S. health care workforce relies upon physicians from other countries to provide high-quality and accessible patient care,” physician organizations said in the letter. “Accordingly, we must ensure that the U.S. has a fair and efficient immigration system that strengthens U.S. health care and advances the nation’s health security. [We] urge the Administration to categorically consider H-1B physicians’ entry into the U.S. to be in the national interest of the country, and waive the new application fee, so that H-1B physicians can continue to be a pipeline that provides health care to U.S. patients.”

September 26, 2025 – Last week, Bingo went missing during a routine laundry change at the hospital. While our incredible Child Life team quickly offered Aaron a replacement, it just wasn’t the same. Bingo was more than a toy — he was a friend, and a source of comfort and courage during Aaron’s treatment.
That’s when our staff sprang into action. Nurse Administrator in charge Chris Ocasio rallied nurses, administrators, and staff to search every cart until Bingo was found. After a hospital-wide search, Bingo was recovered, carefully sanitized with glowing blue-light treatment, and given an extra dose of “magic.” Aaron’s parents told him Bingo had gone on a special medical journey of his own — and returned even stronger, with brand-new superpowers, including a tiny superhero cape.
