Better Together: A Groundbreaking Collaboration With Broward Health And Memorial Healthcare System
February 13, 2025 – Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System have unveiled a historic partnership aimed at enhancing access to care and improving health outcomes throughout Broward County. This pioneering initiative, “Better Together,” is dedicated to tackling the pressing primary and maternal healthcare needs within Broward County communities, while also addressing food insecurity.
Better Together chose to focus on these three areas because the County continues to see:
High incidence of poor maternal-fetal outcomes with 35% of all Black infant deaths coming from identified communities. One in 10 people have hypertension and almost a third of the County population isn’t receiving annual checkups. Almost 200,000 residents have little or no access to nutritious food.
This multi-million-dollar collaboration to create a healthier community is supported by key community partners, including the United Way of Broward County, the Community Foundation of Broward, the Health Foundation of South Florida, Feeding South Florida and Broward County, as well as the two health systems.

A Safe Haven for Newborns Provides Lifesaving Services for Mothers in Crisis
Making a Difference and Saving Two Lives
Miami, Florida — February 13, 2025 — The Gloria M. Silverio Foundation, 501 C-3, dba, A Safe Haven for Newborns, was founded in 2001 to address the escalating problem of infant abandonment in the state of Florida. A Safe Haven for Newborns’ goal is to care for both the mother and her unborn child. “It’s not only the baby’s life that is saved, so is the mother’s,” said Daniel Moran, Battalion Chief, EMS Division, Town of Davie Fire Rescue. The program helps mothers who want to give up their babies without endangering the infant’s life by surrendering them at a manned fire station where the infant can be left in the protective arms of a firefighter with no questions asked. “What the program has done is to give the mothers in crisis the hope that the baby can have a great life and be loved by a family,” said Kingman Schuldt, Fire Chief, Greater Naples Fire Rescue District.
The program saves two lives, the mother and newborn. It provides the mother with the resources and support she needs prior to giving birth, allowing her to make an informed decision that is in the best interest of her unborn child and hers. The Foundation does not charge for any of the services offered.
A Safe Haven for Newborns offers referral services across all 67 Florida counties, as well as for calls received from other states. Some of the referral services A Safe Haven for Newborns offers include, but not limited to, temporary shelter, maternity homes, counseling, health-related issues, transportation to pre-natal care appointments, providing newborn necessities, help with abuse issues, suicide prevention, connecting them with Medicaid and other government programs, or information on adoption. A Safe Haven for Newborns oversees a 24/7 multi-lingual confidential national helpline which offers the distraught mothers the support and guidance they need in their specific states.

Research Shows Blood Test May Provide Personalized Dietary Therapy for Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome
FEBRUARY 13, 2025- Michigan Medicine and Cleveland Clinic researchers have found that patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) were more likely to experience less abdominal pain if they followed a diet guided by the results of a blood test, compared to those who followed a sham elimination diet.
The blood test in this study (InFoods IBS, Biomerica) was specifically developed for patients with IBS and determined a positive test result for each food that triggered an above normal Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody response, which is a marker of inflammation in patients with IBS. The study results were published in Gastroenterology.
Irritable bowel syndrome affects about 10% to 15% of adults in the United States. Studies have shown that individuals who have IBS report a lower health-related quality of life and decreased work productivity. Individuals with IBS experience various symptoms, including abdominal pain and cramps. Some factors, such as certain foods, can worsen symptoms and cause flare-ups.

HealthStream’s CredentialStream® Application and Products Achieve HITRUST r2 Certification, the Highest Level of Healthcare Data Security
February 13, 2025– HealthStream (Nasdaq: HSTM), a leading healthcare technology platform for workforce solutions, announced today that its SaaS-based CredentialStream application, along with the CredentialStream Hub and Network by HealthStream, have earned HITRUST r2 Certification, the highest level of information protection and compliance assurance. CredentialStream is a market-leading application currently used by hospitals and health systems for credentialing, privileging, and enrollment.
It is widely acknowledged that the healthcare industry has greater risk exposure than many other industries due to protected health information, data volumes, extensive regulatory compliance requirements, and other risk factors. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, for the full-year 2024, 720 security breaches were reported in their healthcare breach database with 520 of those reported by healthcare providers. Across all industries, HITRUST’s 2024 Trust Report stated that only 0.64% of HITRUST-certified environments reported a security breach throughout 2022 and 2023. From these statistics, it’s clear to see why vendors’ platforms and products that have earned HITRUST certification are preferred by healthcare organizations as an additional protective step in the management of their data.
Through a stringent year-long initiative, HealthStream underwent a meticulous and thorough vetting process consisting of 921 baseline controls across 19 domains. The certification journey covered a range of security categories, including data protection and privacy; network protection; information protection program; password management; access control; audit logging and monitoring; business continuity and disaster recovery.
