Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation Honors Donors at Proton Therapy Center
February 20, 2026 – The Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation celebrated with donors the upcoming addition of proton therapy at the Eugene M. & Christine E. Lynn Cancer Institute, at the Harvey & Phyllis Sandler Pavilion at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, part of Baptist Health.
The donor event, which took place on Feb. 19, 2026, in advance of the center’s summer opening, acknowledged lead donors and community members who generously contributed to the project, including Barbara C. Gutin, Irving & Barbara C. Gutin Charitable Foundation, Judy and Artie Canter, Renee and Barry Honig, Leticia (Tish) Messinger, Arlette and Robert Britton, Art and Debbie Newman and the Estate of Richard Blackman.
“We are very fortunate to have had the philanthropic support needed to bring proton therapy to the South Palm Beach County area,” said Lincoln Mendez, North Region executive, Baptist Health, and CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “This project was fully funded by the generosity of the community. We simply would not have this groundbreaking technology and treatment without all those who gave gifts, no matter the size, to this initiative.”
Among those in attendance for the event, in addition to Mr. Mendez, were Mark Larkin, president of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation; Dr. Leonard Kalman, interim system chief executive for Baptist Health Cancer Care and interim executive medical director for Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute; Dr. Louise Morrell, chief medical executive of Lynn Cancer Institute; Dr. Michael Kasper, medical director of the Institute’s radiation oncology program; and Dr. Robert Press, director of proton therapy at Lynn Cancer Institute.

| Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach plans massive redo
The campus redo is being done to help turn the hospital into a national destination for medical care and wellness
February 20, 2026 – Good Samaritan Medical Center is redoing its West Palm Beach campus with plans to build a new hospital and medical office tower, rental housing, two luxury condominiums, a hotel and a mixed-use complex along the waterfront.
The project, estimated to cost between $2 billion and $3 billion, is being done in conjunction with a new entity called Easton Street Capital, created by two principals from Palm Beach-based Frisbie Group.
Good Sam’s plans for its newly named Center of Excellence will be among the pricest redevelopments in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County.
The project also comes at a time when Good Sam is facing stiff competition from nonprofit, out-of-state health care providers who want to serve wealthy and well-insured residents who have moved to Palm Beach County.
“We have been serving the community for over 100 years,” said Maggie Gill, president of the Palm Beach Health Network, the parent of Tenet Healthcare’s hospitals in Palm Beach County, including Good Sam.
“As we look at how West Palm Beach is growing, we thought it was important to modernize our approach to health care,” Gill said. “It’s not just about being in a new building. It’s about enhancing the services.

Plans are to build a new hospital directly west of the existing Good Sam hospital, which faces the Intracoastal Waterway and Palm Beach, and is at 1309 N. Flagler Dr.

February 9, 2026 – STUART, Fla. – Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital has received the Comprehensive Center accreditation from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).

Holy Cross Health Primary Care Physician Dr. Jason Ceavers Earns ACP Fellowship
February 18, 2026 – Holy Cross Heath announced that Jason Ceavers, MD, FACP, an internist specializing in LGBTQ+ affirming care, has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the society of internists. Fellowship is a professional recognition awarded to physicians who demonstrate integrity, clinical excellence and sustained commitment to patient care and internal medicine.
Dr. Ceavers was elected upon the recommendation of peers and the review of ACP’s Credentials Subcommittee. He may now use the letters “FACP” after his name in recognition of this honor. He is certified in internal medicine by American Board of Internal Medicine and has received awards such as “Best Doctor” in Broward County by the OutSFL Readers’ Choice Awards in 2024.

Genshaft, Greenbaum Gift Names Taneja Tower Operating Suite at Tampa General Hospital
The generous gift from former USF President Judy Genshaft and Steven Greenbaum names the iMRI surgical suite, a powerful tool for the TGH Neuroscience Institute.
February 20, 2026 – The Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Foundation announced a generous gift from Dr. Judy Genshaft and Mr. Steven Greenbaum that will name the iMRI surgical suite in the Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience & Transplant Tower, scheduled to open in 2028 adjacent to Tampa General’s academic medical center on Davis Islands.
Genshaft is the former president of the University of South Florida and a member of the TGH Foundation Board of Trustees. She and Greenbaum, her husband, made the $350,000 gift in honor of Dr. Harry van Loveren, chief of the TGH Neuroscience Institute.
“Patients come to the TGH Neuroscience Institute to receive world-class care from a world-class team,” said John Couris, president and CEO of Florida Health Sciences Center | Tampa General Hospital. “This tremendous gift from Judy and Steve will enable us to continue to elevate that care.”
Tampa General Hospital was named in the Top 10% for Neurology & Neurosurgery and High-Performing for Stroke Care by U.S. News & World Report for 2025-2026. Study Examines Wearable Tech and Exercise for Pediatric and Young Adult Sarcoma Care
February 20, 2026 – When a child or young adult is diagnosed with sarcoma, treatment often means months of grueling chemotherapy, with side effects that can linger for years. But a new study at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is aiming to change that narrative, harnessing the power of lifestyle, exercise and wearable devices to improve outcomes and quality of life for these patients.
The study is one of many projects energized by the Florida Cancer Innovation Fund (FCIF), a $60 million initiative launched by the Florida Department of Health. The fund supports innovative cancer research, clinical trials and prevention strategies across the state, with a focus on rapid, high-impact results. Harleen Kaur, Ph.D., a postdoctoral research scholar with expertise in nutrition and digital health at Sylvester, and Loren Yavelberg, Ph.D., a postdoctoral associate specializing in clinical exercise physiology, applied for the grant. They received $328,052 from the fund.
Mentored by co-principal investigators Tracy Crane, Ph.D., co-leader of the Cancer Control Program and director of lifestyle medicine, prevention and digital health at Sylvester and associate professor in the Division of Medical Oncology at the Miller School, and Jonathan Trent, Ph.D., director of sarcoma oncology and precision medicine at Sylvester and professor in the Miller School’s Division of Medical Oncology, the research team is launching a first-of-its-kind clinical trial to evaluate how a structured, multimodal exercise program can impact chemotherapy uptake, side effects and overall well-being in pediatric, adolescent and young adult (AYA) sarcoma patients.

Mayo Clinic opens patient information office in Cayman Islands
February 19, 2026 – GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands — Mayo Clinic is opening a representative office in the Cayman Islands to help patients, their families, health insurers and others interested in connecting with Mayo Clinic. The office on Grand Cayman Island is Mayo’s first in the Caymans and third in the Caribbean.
The Mayo Clinic Representative Office staff will help patients in the Cayman Islands and surrounding area make appointments at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; and Mayo Clinic Healthcare in London. Mayo Clinic has patient information offices in roughly 15 countries, including the Dominican Republic and Trinidad and Tobago.
“The staff at the Mayo Clinic Representative Office in the Cayman Islands will play a key role facilitating travel to Mayo Clinic by patients and their families,” says Rafael Sierra, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon and chair of the division of hip and knee surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Mayo Clinic medical director for the Americas. “The addition of a third office in the Caribbean underscores Mayo’s commitment to serving patients throughout the region who have serious, complex and unsolved medical needs.”
The staff help with travel, lodging, billing, and insurance arrangements; provide general orientation to Mayo Clinic; facilitate Mayo review of medical records; and coordinate future appointments. The services are free of charge. The office does not provide medical care.

Eric Moore, M.D., medical director of Mayo Clinic International, has been elected as the newest member of the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Eric Moore, M.D., medical director of Mayo Clinic International and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology in Rochester, was elected to the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees at its quarterly meeting on Feb. 20.

Mayo Clinic study identifies mechanism behind immunotherapy resistance in lung cancer
February 19, 2026- — Mayo Clinic researchers and collaborators have identified a previously unrecognized way lung tumors weaken the immune system, helping explain why many patients do not respond to immunotherapy and pointing to a potential new approach to make those treatments more effective.
The study, published in Cancer Immunology Research, focuses on regulatory T cells, immune cells that normally keep the immune system from becoming overactive. In lung cancer, researchers found these same cells can be redirected to protect the tumor instead of the body.
“What we are seeing is the tumor taking advantage of a normal immune safety mechanism and turning it to its own benefit,” says Henrique Borges da Silva, Ph.D., an immunologist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and senior author of the study. “The same cells that normally prevent immune damage are instead protecting the tumor.”
