Experienced operations and nursing leader will oversee specialty hospitals in Coral Cables, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Riviera Beach
RIVIERA BEACH, Florida – January 23, 2024 – David O’Brien, who has spent the past decade as an administrator for operations and nursing at hospitals in South Florida and other parts of the South, was recently named the Market Chief Executive Officer for Kindred Hospitals of South Florida. In his new role, O’Brien oversees all strategic planning, finances, operations and personnel for Kindred’s four specialty hospitals in the market: Kindred Hospital South Florida – Coral Gables, Kindred Hospital South Florida – Fort Lauderdale, Kindred Hospital South Florida – Hollywood, and Kindred Hospital The Palm Beaches in Riviera Beach.
As Market CEO for Kindred Hospitals of South Florida, O’Brien is responsible for leading the four long-term acute care hospitals with a combined 265 beds that specialize in treating medically complex patients recovering from serious injury or illness. In addition, Kindred Hospital The Palm Beaches and Kindred Hospital South Florida – Fort Lauderdale each feature an 11-bed inpatient acute rehabilitation unit. | BAPTIST HEALTH FOUNDATION HOSTS AN EVENING OF GRATITUDE BENEFITING BETHESDA HOSPITAL
PALM BEACH, FL – January 23, 2024 – Over 150 guests attended the Evening of Gratitude benefiting Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach, which was held on January 12, 2024 at the OPAL Grand Resort & Spa in Delray Beach. Hosted by Baptist Health Foundation, the event honored members of its Giving Society and other donors to Bethesda Hospital.
With Emily Pantelides as the evening’s emcee, the event raised nearly $400,000 towards the Bethesda Hospital Emergency Services Campaign to renovate the Emergency Department at Bethesda Hospital East. The Evening of Gratitude featured a cocktail hour, seated dinner, live auction, live band and more. Speakers included Alex Villoch, Baptist Health Foundation CEO; Joe Natoli, Baptist Health executive vice president and chief administrative officer; Barbara James, Baptist Health Foundation vice president and Jared Smith, Bethesda Hospital CEO.
“The Emergency Department is often the front door of the hospital for many in our community. Patients and their families depend on the expert care of our emergency medicine physicians, nurses and staff, as well as our equipment and technology,” said Barbara James. “As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of donors to Baptist Health Foundation to help support world-class, compassionate care, close to home.”

TGH Transplant Institute Achieves New Record and National Ranking for Transplants in 2023; Patients Benefit from Greater Access to Live-Saving Procedures and Better Outcomes.

BRINGING VALUE-BASED CARE TO RURAL AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES
Policymakers must recognize the unique payment arrangements of safety-net providers in order to better serve rural and underserved patients through value-based care. CMS should modify its APMs through the use of waivers specific to safety-net providers or develop new ACO tracks/total cost of care models focused on rural and underserved populations.
NAACOS convened members and presented our collective recommendations to CMS in a letter earlier this month.
January 22, 2024 – More than 100,000 Americans live in a medically underserved community, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration. About 15 percent of the country lives in a rural area. Patients in underserved and rural areas inherently face greater challenges in seeking and receiving medical care. When they do, these patients tend to be sicker and face social challenges such as having a harder time getting to and from appointments.

New model seeks to improve quality of care, access, and outcomes for people with mental health conditions and substance use disorders in Medicaid and Medicare
January 19, 2024 – Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is announcing a new model to test approaches for addressing the behavioral and physical health, as well as health-related social needs, of people with Medicaid and Medicare. The Innovation in Behavioral Health (IBH) Model’s goal is to improve the overall quality of care and outcomes for adults with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorder by connecting them with the physical, behavioral, and social supports needed to manage their care. The model will also promote health information technology (health IT) capacity building through infrastructure payments and other activities.
