Holy Cross Health Expands Orthopedic Care with Two Mako 4 Robotics Systems
The cutting-edge technology expands access to hip and knee replacements.
January 5, 2026 – Holy Cross Health is advancing orthopedic care in South Florida with the addition of two Stryker Mako 4 robotics systems to its orthopedic service line. This expansion allows more patients to access total hip, total knee and partial knee procedures with highly precise, computer-assisted guidance and timely access to surgery.

Adriana Arenas, M.D., Joins Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute as Nonsurgical Spine Care Physician
January 6, 2026 – Adriana Arenas, M.D., is a board-certified nonsurgical spine care physician at Baptist Health Miami Neuroscience Institute, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Cervical Health Awareness Month: New At-Home Test Expands Screening Options

Two gene mutations, IDH2 and SRSF2, work together to disrupt RNA editing, changing how blood cells develop in acute myeloid leukemia
Jan. 5, 2026 – Treating acute myeloid leukemia (AML) depends on knowing what goes wrong inside cells. A new study suggests that two genetic mutations – IDH2 and SRSF2 – work cooperatively to mis-splice RNA messages and change how blood cells develop. The findings appear in the Jan. 2 issue of Science Advances and provide a mechanistic map that could inform future therapies.
Picture a film editor piecing together a blockbuster. Each scene must flow seamlessly to tell the story. In our cells, RNA plays that script‑editing role—splicing together genetic “scenes” so proteins know their lines. But in AML, these two genetic mutations throw the editor off script, creating a chaotic plot that drives disease.

CDC Acts on Presidential Memorandum to Update Childhood Immunization Schedule
JANUARY 5, 2026 — Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services Jim O’Neill, in his role as Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), today signed a decision memorandum* [PDF, 894 KB] accepting recommendations from a comprehensive scientific assessment [PDF, 1.05 MB] of U.S. childhood immunization practices, following a directive from President Trump to review international best practices from peer, developed countries.
On December 5, 2025, via a Presidential Memorandum, President Trump directed the Secretary of HHS and the Acting Director of CDC to examine how peer, developed nations structure their childhood vaccination schedules and to evaluate the scientific evidence underlying those practices. He instructed them to update the U.S. childhood vaccine schedule if superior approaches exist abroad while preserving access to vaccine currently available to Americans.
