NICKLAUS CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL ACHIEVES FIFTH CONSECUTIVE MAGNET® RECOGNITION
RANKS AMONG THE ONLY ONE PERCENT OF HOSPITALS NATIONWIDE TO HAVE ACHIEVED A FIFTH CONSECUTIVE RECOGNITION
March 29, 2024- Nicklaus Children’s Hospital this month attained Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® for the fifth consecutive term. Nicklaus Children’s is one of only five children’s hospitals in the nation to have received a fifth Magnet designation and joins the ranks of the only 1 percent of hospitals nationwide who have attained this fifth-term Magnet milestone. What’s more, only 9.7 percent of hospitals in the United States currently hold Magnet recognition status, and only 1 percent of those are pediatric hospitals.
The Magnet recognition program distinguishes healthcare organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence and is the highest and most regarded honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice. Nicklaus Children’s was the first pediatric hospital in Florida and the fifth pediatric hospital in the nation to achieve ANCC Magnet designation in 2004.
Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence and is a factor when the public judges healthcare organizations. U.S. News & World Report’s annual showcase of “America’s Best Hospitals” includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care. The Magnet Model provides a framework for nursing practice, research, and measurement of outcomes. Through this framework, ANCC evaluates applicants across a number of components and dimensions to gauge an organization’s nursing excellence.

DELRAY MEDICAL CENTER IS FIRST HOSPITAL IN PALM BEACH COUNTY TO OFFER NEW FARAPULSE™ PULSED FIELD ABLATION SYSTEM FOR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION
April 2, 2024 – Delray Medical Center is the first hospital in Palm Beach County to offer the FARAPULSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation System, a newly approved device for the treatment of atrial fibrillation, the most common type of heart arrhythmia. The first procedure using the new system was performed at the hospital by Dr. Yoel Vivas on April 2, 2024.
The FARAPULSE PFA System, which is manufactured by Boston Scientific, received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in January.[i] The new system offers an alternative treatment for atrial fibrillation than traditional thermal ablation, in which a catheter placed in the interior of the heart generates extreme temperatures – hot or cold – to destroy targeted areas in the heart associated with abnormal heart rhythms. Instead, the FARAPULSE PFA System relies on tissue-selective, non-thermal electric fields to ablate heart tissue and avoid damage to surrounding structures.
Atrial fibrillation occurs when the top two chambers of the heart, the atria, beat too fast and with an irregular rhythm (fibrillation). It can decrease the heart’s pumping efficiency, which can cause blood cells to pool and stick together, forming clots in the heart, and lead to stroke. People with atrial fibrillation have a higher risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications than those with normal heart rhythms.[ii]

(JACKSONVILLE) PIONEERS SURGICAL ROBOT INNOVATION WITH BENEFITS FOR PATIENTS
Surgeons performed the first case in the U.S. at Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville using the new surgical tool.
Jacksonville, Fla., April 2, 2024 – Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville reports at it’s were the first in the United States to perform procedures with a new, sleek sidekick – the Maestro Surgical Robotics System.
The robot provides surgeons with an extra set of “hands” to help hold instruments and move tools with precision during laparoscopic surgeries. At Baptist Jacksonville, the tool is being used during gastric sleeve procedures, a common type of weight loss surgery.
The first procedure was performed using the first version of the new Robotics System. The case was completed by Steven Hodgett, MD, FACS, a bariatric surgeon with North Florida Surgeons PA, who practices at the hospital.
“Stability and control are of critical importance and innovative robotic technologies help us reach new levels of precision,” said Dr. Hodgett. “We’re fortunate to have had the opportunity to provide input on robotic surgical technologies being developed at the global level, which later translates to real-world surgical improvements for patients.”
Because of surgical expertise and technological advancements, like the new Robotics System, patients can undergo a sleeve gastrectomy using a minimally invasive approach, which helps reduce pain and recovery time. In fact, patients usually go home after an overnight stay in the hospital.

HHS FINALIZES POLICIES TO MAKE MARKETPLACE COVERAGE MORE ACCESSIBLE AND EXPAND ESSENTIAL HEALTH BENEFITS
APRIL 2, 2024- Today, the Biden-Harris Administration, through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), announced policies for the Affordable Care Act Marketplaces that make it easier for low-income people to enroll in coverage, provides states the ability to increase access to routine adult dental services, and sets network adequacy standards for the time and distance people travel for appointments with in-network providers. Finally, the rule will standardize certain operations across the Marketplaces to increase reliability and consistency for consumers. The 2025 Notice of Benefit and Payment Parameters final rule builds on the Administration’s previous work expanding access to quality, affordable health care and raising standards for Marketplace plans nationwide.
“More than 21 million Americans signed up for high-quality, affordable health care coverage through the ACA Marketplaces in 2024. We want to build on this success to make Marketplace plans even better,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra. “This rule will allow coverage of routine dental benefits for the first time, expand requirements to ensure reliable access to health care providers, and ensure consumers with lower incomes can sign up for coverage when they need it.”
“Access to affordable, quality health care options remain a concern across the country and a top priority for CMS,” said CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure. “This rule includes groundbreaking ways to access health care services – such as addressing barriers for routine adult dental coverage for the first time and including considerations for how far people travel to see a health care provider. At CMS, we continue to explore ways to help Americans access high-quality coverage through the ACA Marketplaces.”
