ACHE of South Florida Member Spotlight June 2026: Rudy Molinet, RN, MPH, FACHE
Rudy Molinet acknowledged that people often refer to him as a Swiss Army Knife, and the comparison to the multi-purpose tool couldn’t be more accurate. Molinet founded Artemis Synergies, Inc., a consulting firm where he provides individual executive coaching to healthcare clients. He has also served as board chair at Holy Cross Health, the only faith-based, nonprofit hospital in Broward County, for the past three years. Additionally, he has been a member of ACHE – American College of Healthcare Executives – since 2019 and became a fellow. Molinet has served as a Healthcare Executive for more than 40 years and is putting that experience to work in the service of others.
Molinet particularly enjoys his role as a professor at Florida Atlantic University, about which he said, “I teach the executive MHA (Masters of Health Administration) program, teaching marketing, strategic planning, and leadership. I think the thing I enjoy most about working at FAU is helping the future healthcare leaders, and that’s my connection with ACHE.”
In further explaining the connection between FAU and ACHE, he recounted that he was looking for an opportunity for students to have real-world experiences and networking opportunities, and after researching different organizations thought ACHE would be the best fit. He became a member himself, then said, “I approached our administration and they agreed to pay the membership dues for the students for the course I teach called the Leadership Boot Camp.”

| FIU and Baptist Health break ground on new academic medical center
May 27, 2026 — Florida International University (FIU) today marked a historic milestone with the official groundbreaking of a new, state-of-the-art on-campus academic medical center.
Funded through a $158 million State of Florida appropriation, the seven-story, 163,000-square-foot facility is the first significant investment in health care delivery located directly on FIU’s main campus. The center was developed and will be operated in collaboration with Baptist Health.
“This groundbreaking represents a bold step forward for FIU and for the future of health care in our community,” said FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez. “By building a full academic medical center on our campus, we’re creating a place where learning, discovery and patient care happen side by side. It opens new opportunities for our students, fuels innovation and delivers meaningful, lasting benefits for families across South Florida.”
Located near Southwest 107th Avenue and Southwest 10th Street, the facility will bring education and patient care together in a powerful way, enabling medical students, residents and clinical faculty to learn and work together in the same environment where patients receive care every day. The center also will support interprofessional training for students across FIU’s health care disciplines, including nursing, physician assistant, occupational therapy and other allied health professions.

Innovative Care at Your Fingertips: Advancing Hand Surgery in Broward County
The recent addition of two orthopedic hand surgeons to the Broward Health Physician Group is elevating hand surgery at the health system.
The demand for hand care in Broward County has increased in recent years alongside an expanding population of older adults and the popularity of physical activities such as pickleball.
After long partnering with community physicians to treat patients with hand conditions, Broward Health over the past year welcomed orthopedic hand surgeons Neha Kapila, M.D., and Ayisha Livingstone, M.D., to the Broward Health Physician Group. Their additions complete the continuum of surgical and non-surgical hand care available at Broward Health.
“There was no hand surgeon on staff when I joined in October 2024,” Dr. Kapila said. “Since then, we’ve hired Dr. Livingstone, who joined this summer, because of our growing patient population. We see a lot of both chronic and traumatic cases, and we’re rapidly expanding our program.”
COMPLEMENTARY FOCUSES
Dr. Kapila and Dr. Livingstone treat a wide range of hand and upper extremity conditions, including arthritis, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, tendon rupture and tendon lacerations.
Dr. Kapila’s interests include complex hand trauma, such as fractures and nerve injuries.
“With hand trauma, the bones are often shattered into many small pieces that require a lot of thought to put back together, like assembling a complicated jigsaw puzzle,” Dr. Kapila said. “It takes a keen eye to repair those injuries. The greatest reward is seeing how well patients do afterward.”
A self-described “bread-and-butter orthopedic hand surgeon,” Dr. Livingstone excels at caring for patients who need follow-up fracture care.
“We see low-impact fractures, mainly in older patients, and high-impact fractures from car accidents and falls,” she said. “I don’t often treat acute trauma cases, but I see a lot of patients for ‘cold trauma’—those who need follow-up treatment within the next few days or weeks after a fracture.”

Tampa General Hospital Awarded $200,000 Grant From TD to Create Virtual Health Centers
The grant will help place TGH clinic pods in schools, shelters and community hubs in vulnerable communities, expanding access to urgent, behavioral and preventative care.
May 28, 2026 – The Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Foundation announced that it has been awarded a $200,000 grant from TD to create Tampa General’s Virtual Health Center initiative, which will expand access to urgent, behavioral and preventative care for adolescents in low- and moderate-income communities.
Telehealth “clinics in a pod” will be placed in schools, shelters and community hubs. These private, technology-enabled spaces connect youth to licensed clinicians, reduce access barriers and support early intervention and improved health outcomes.
“We are committed to ensuring that the vulnerable and underserved are not left behind when it comes to accessing care,” said Jordan Clark, director of Ambulatory Business Operations and Integration at Tampa General. “These centers bring compassion, connection and timely support directly into the places people already know and trust — offering hope, dignity and a pathway to better health for those who need it most.”

Sold-out event features local experts, details latest in health care
May 28, 2026 — Jupiter Medical Center welcomed community members to its annual Spring Fling Women’s Health Luncheon on Friday, May 15, bringing the community together for an engaging and informative event focused on prioritizing women’s health and well-being.

NCH Advances Investment in Cancer Care with Appointment of Javier Muñoz, MD, as Cancer Center Director
May 29, 2026 – Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH) is proud to advance its investment in cancer care and has named Javier Muñoz, MD, MS, MBA, FACP, an internationally trained academic hematologist-oncologist and cancer program builder, as Medical Director of the NCH Cancer Program and a practicing medical oncologist in the NCH oncology clinic. Dr. Muñoz joins NCH from Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, where he served as Director of the Lymphoma Program and held senior leadership roles in clinical trials and cellular therapy. His background includes advanced fellowship training and faculty experience at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he helped build nationally recognized immunotherapy and transplant programs.
Dr. Muñoz brings more than two decades of experience across leading academic cancer centers, with deep expertise in lymphoma, immunotherapy, cellular therapies and clinical trial development. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has played leadership roles in dozens of clinical trials, including registration-defining studies that have helped shape modern cancer treatment.
This appointment represents a transformative moment for cancer care in Naples and Southwest Florida. Historically, patients have often been required to navigate a fragmented system, receiving medical oncology, surgery, radiation therapy and supportive services at different locations across the community. NCH’s evolving cancer program in collaboration with Northwestern Medicine is designed to change that model by delivering coordinated, patient-centered care through a fully integrated, multidisciplinary approach that brings services together under one cohesive program.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s 15th Annual “Claws for Kids” Raised Over $300,000 to Crack Open Opportunities for Miami-Dade Area Youth
May 14, 2026 – Supporters cracked open opportunities for Miami-Dade area youth at Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s 15th Annual “Claws for Kids” fundraising luncheon on Tuesday, May 5, at Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach. More than 350 of South Florida’s top community leaders, philanthropists and influencers attended the annual event, making it the largest “Claws for Kids” event in the organization’s history.
The signature event continued Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s year-long 80th anniversary celebration. For eight decades, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has been committed to improving the lives of Miami-Dade area youth through mentorship, care and educational programs designed to prepare them to become productive and caring citizens in the community.
“Claws for Kids” raised over $300,000 that will support Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s services and programs at its six Clubs and sites combined, which provide educational after-school programs, tutoring and homework assistance, STEM, social skills, dance, arts and crafts, mentoring and summer and athletic programs for area youth who need them the most. These programs help children realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
Guests enjoyed Joe’s world-famous stone crabs and additional signature items without the wait while listening to the sounds of Brett Miller. Emmy award-winning journalist and WSVN Channel 7 Anchor Belkys Nerey was the Master of Ceremonies.

Five Sisters Among First to Enroll in Novel Pancreatic Cancer Screening Study at Sarasota Memorial Hospital
May 28, 2026 – Bound by family and driven by hope, five sisters with a family history of pancreatic cancer recently underwent a new screening test at Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) to look for any pancreatic abnormalities that could later become cancer.
The sisters traveled together from their homes in south Florida to SMH’s Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute to become part of a research study evaluating LINFU (Low-Intensity Non-Focused Ultrasound), an emerging screening technology designed to help doctors identify precancerous changes in people at high risk for pancreatic cancer, but who have no signs or symptoms of the disease.
Commonly referred to as a “pap smear for the pancreas,” the novel screening combines FDA-cleared ultrasound and endoscopic technologies in a two-step, non-invasive outpatient procedure that allows doctors to collect pancreatic ductal cells and fluid to test for potential abnormalities.
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the nation’s most deadly cancers, largely because it is difficult to detect early. To support one another through the screening experience, the sisters scheduled their screenings on the same day, turning what could have been an anxious moment into one marked by strength, solidarity and purpose. Since losing their father to pancreatic cancer 10 years ago, at age 76, the sisters have worried about the hereditary risk to each other and their children.

West Boca Medical Center Completes $2.3 Million Labor and Delivery Expansion and Renovation
May 28, 2026- West Boca Medical Center completes a $2.3 million investment to expand and modernize its labor and delivery department.
The multi-phase project included renovations to two nursing stations, expansion of the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) to enhance comfort and recovery for mothers delivering via c-section, and expansion of the hospital’s dedicated OB Emergency Department. The project also includes construction of a new luxury labor suite designed to provide an elevated birthing experience for expectant families.
The approximately 478-square-foot suite features a dedicated family area, a spacious and upgraded bathroom, and allows mothers to remain in one room throughout labor, delivery and postpartum recovery. The suite is available for an additional fee and includes meals for both mom and partner, along with complimentary snacks and beverages.
“We are continuing to invest in the future of women’s healthcare and in the families who trust us with some of life’s most important moments,” said Jerad Hanlon, CEO of West Boca Medical Center. “These enhancements allow us to provide an even more comfortable, personalized and high-quality experience for mothers and babies, while maintaining our commitment to serving as a premier destination for maternity care in our community.”

West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System expands mental health treatment options with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
May 29, 2026 – The West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System (WPBVAHCS) is proud to announce the successful treatment of its first Veteran using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) at the Thomas H. Corey VA Medical Center. This milestone marks a meaningful step forward in broadening advanced mental health treatment options available to Veterans in the region.
“We are committed to expanding access to state-of-the-art mental health care for our Veterans,” said WPBVAHCS Executive Director Cory Price. “The introduction of TMS reflects our dedication to offering innovative, evidence‑based treatments that support Veterans when traditional therapies have not been effective.”
TMS is a non-invasive, FDA‑cleared treatment for depression, anxiety, and certain other conditions such as obsessive‑compulsive disorder and smoking cessation. It uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain that influence mood and emotion, offering a drug‑free and safe option for Veterans who have not found relief through traditional medications or psychotherapy. Each treatment session typically lasts 20–30 minutes, with patients coming in five days a week for several weeks as part of a personalized care plan.

UHealth Launches Comprehensive Aortic Center to Treat the Most Complex Aortic Disease
A new multidisciplinary program brings cardiac and vascular surgeons, cardiologists and genetic specialists together to provide advanced, lifesaving care for aortic aneurysms, dissections and valve disease.
May 28, 2026 — The aorta is the largest and most essential artery, transporting oxygenated blood throughout the body. It’s the heart’s main pipeline to every organ.
“The aorta starts at the aortic valve and goes all the way down to the pelvis,” said Jean Panneton, M.D., a vascular surgeon and co-director of UHealth — University of Miami Health System’s new Comprehensive Aortic Center. “It separates into multiple branches, feeding the brain, the upper and lower extremities, liver, kidneys and so forth. It’s probably the most important organ because it has repercussions on every single part of the body.”
For most people, the aorta performs its essential tasks unnoticed. But if there is a problem, aortic dysfunction can be incredibly dangerous. The Comprehensive Aortic Center was created to provide patient-centered care, assembling cardiac and vascular surgeons, cardiologists, geneticists and others to provide a much-needed resource for people in Miami, South Florida and the Caribbean.
“Miami’s Comprehensive Aortic Center fills a clear void in South Florida,” said Juan Pablo Umaña, M.D., chief of cardiothoracic surgery at UHealth and co-director of the center. “Patients with complex aortic valve issues and aortic disease often had to leave the state to find the care they needed. Not anymore.”

Southwest Florida Proton reaches 100-patient milestone, expands hours to meet demand
Cancer treatment center is the only facility on Florida’s west coast that offers proton therapy
ESTERO, Fla. – May 29, 2026 – Southwest Florida Proton has treated its 100th patient, a milestone that reflects the cancer treatment center’s efficiency and commitment to the patients it serves.
Southwest Florida Proton, which opened in December, expedited its “ramp-up period” to accommodate additional cancer patients seeking proton therapy, a specialized type of radiation therapy currently available in only one location along Florida’s entire west coast. The Estero cancer treatment center, featuring the Belgium-based Ion Beams Applications (IBA) ProteusOne machine, recently expanded its treatment times to 14 hours per day to adequately serve the demand for its services.
“For years, doctors in Southwest Florida have been referring patients to proton centers in other parts of Florida or the U.S., so we knew the need and demand were both there,” said Dr. Arie Dosoretz, CEO and managing partner of Southwest Florida Proton. “Having the newest IBA ProteusONE system in the world right here at home certainly makes it easier for Southwest Florida residents to access proton therapy.”

Encompass Health to build 36-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Bridgeport, West Virginia
May 29, 2026 — Encompass Health Corp. (NYSE: EHC) today announced plans to build a freestanding, 36-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The hospital will be an expanded relocation of Encompass Health’s 19-bed unit within the WVU Medicine United Hospital Center.

Tampa General Hospital Opens TGH Weight Management and Metabolic Health Center
The program provides comprehensive, physician-supervised medical care for patients with obesity in the Palm Beaches.
May 18, 2026– Tampa General Hospital (TGH) has launched a new clinic, TGH Weight Management and Metabolic Health Center, to deliver comprehensive, physician-supervised medical care for adults with obesity in the Palm Beaches and on the Treasure Coast. The center is supported by the advanced clinical expertise and coordinated services of Tampa General Hospital, Florida’s premier academic health system.
Dr. David B. Schwimmer, a gastroenterologist board certified in obesity medicine, will serve as medical director and supervise the clinic, which will be located in Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach.
The TGH Weight Management and Metabolic Health Center serves adults age 18 and older who meet one or more of the following criteria:

LEE HEALTH: Free Autism Screening for Young Children
May 28, 2026 — Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida offers free monthly autism spectrum disorder screenings for toddlers 18 months to five years of age.
The next screenings will be held on June 10 and June 12 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Pediatric Specialist Office, 15901 Bass Road, Suite 102, Fort Myers.
It is estimated that one in every 31 children is diagnosed with some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined.
Medical consultants for the project stress that an early diagnosis can make a vast difference for toddlers and their families. They say early intensive behavioral intervention can make an immense difference not just in the development of the child, but in their families as well.
The ASD screening is conducted by the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The screenings are administered by an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, who has extensive training and experience in typical child development and developmental disorders.
