Holy Cross Health Hosts Welcome Reception for New President and CEO Pierre Monice

June 10, 2025 – Holy Cross Health recently welcomed its new President and CEO Pierre Monice, MBA, FACHE, with a special reception held at Grateful Palate Events in Fort Lauderdale.

The evening brought together Holy Cross Health leadership, colleagues, supporters and members of the Broward community to celebrate Monice’s arrival and hear his inspiring vision for the future of the healthcare system. The program included remarks from Rudy Molinet, RN, MPH, FACHE, Chair of the Holy Cross Health Board of Directors and Robert Casalou, President and CEO of Trinity Health Michigan and Southeast Region, who formally introduced Monice and expressed confidence in his leadership.

“Coming home to serve the very community that shaped me is the honor of a lifetime,” said Monice, who was born and raised in South Florida and is from a Haitian immigrant family. “Just as I am committed to excellence, health equity and community engagement, so is the entire team at Holy Cross Health. I look forward to embarking on this new chapter for Holy Cross with our generous donors, supporters, community leaders, physicians, nurses and staff and continuing to bring the highest quality of compassionate care to our patients.”

Prior to joining Holy Cross, Monice was president of Loyola Medicine’s MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois, which like Holy Cross, is a Trinity hospital.

At Holy Cross Health, Monice will focus on ambulatory growth strategy, enhancing patient satisfaction and fostering a strong culture of colleague engagement.

$15M Gift from Dr. Semyon and Janna Friedman Powers Innovative Leap Forward at Mount Sinai with Advanced Research Institute

June 9, 2025 — Mount Sinai Medical Center is proud to announce the establishment of their inaugural integrated research institute: The Semyon and Janna Friedman Advanced Research Institute (ARI), made possible through a transformative $15 million gift from longtime philanthropists Dr. Semyon and Janna Friedman. The signage for the newly named institute was installed last week, marking a significant milestone in Mount Sinai’s commitment to groundbreaking medical research and continued clinical innovation.

After relocating to Miami, the Friedmans were inspired to give back to the community that welcomed them with open arms. Their landmark donation is funding Mount Sinai’s first centralized research and innovation platform, a dynamic new space that will serve as a cornerstone for clinical and translational research. ARI’s robust infrastructure allows for evaluation of existing practices, improvement upon the current delivery of care, and utilization of new tools to prevent, diagnose, and treat — with greater specificity and less burden — disease in the future.

“We fell in love with Miami Beach and wanted to share our passion for research and healthcare with others in the community through our gift to Mount Sinai,” said Dr. Semyon and Janna Friedman.

The Semyon and Janna Friedman Advanced Research Institute will enable clinicians and scientists to turn patient experiences into vital data, research, and innovation.

June 6, 2025 – Jackson Health System is committed to protecting patient privacy and addressing any potential breach with urgency and transparency. An internal investigation recently confirmed unauthorized access to more than 2,000 patient records by an employee between July 2020 and May 2025.

This individual accessed information – including patient names, birthdates, addresses, medical record numbers, and clinical details – to promote a personal healthcare business. Social security numbers were not compromised. Data breaches are unfortunately all too common in the healthcare industry, where sensitive information is frequently targeted. VITAS Delivers Power Play of a Lifetime for Florida Panthers Fan

The score was 2:1 Seattle Kraken, but for one Florida Panthers fan, it was a big win!

June 2025- Alan Reddish loves sports. Every time his nurse Natalie Villabrera-Williams, RN, visits, the 53-year-old has a game on the television. His room at Lenox on the Lake is decorated in sports memorabilia, and he takes his Panthers ice hockey very seriously.

Natalie has been with VITAS in Broward County, Florida, for nearly 18 years and has been Alan’s primary care nurse since he was admitted in 2022, diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

“I love what I do,” says Natalie. “My patients are like family. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for them.”

Natalie and Alan have formed a special bond over the years, so when Natalie noticed that Alan was looking a little ragged, having let his beard grow unruly, she did not hesitate to ask, “Why won’t you let Ingrid (hospice aide) shave your beard?”

Alan’s response was simple. “The Panthers are in the playoffs. It’s bad luck to shave my beard when the Panthers are in the playoffs.”

Cleveland Clinic Research Finds Injectable Medications for Obesity Produce Smaller Weight Loss in A Real-World Setting, Compared to Randomized Clinical Trials

Discontinued treatment, low maintenance dosage led to reduced effectiveness of GLP-1 medications on body weight and blood sugar levels

June 10, 2025 – A Cleveland Clinic study shows that semaglutide and tirzepatide – injectable GLP-1 drugs for obesity – produce smaller weight loss in a real-world setting because patients discontinue treatment or use lower maintenance dosages. Treatment discontinuation also negatively impacted blood sugar control in patients with prediabetes. The study was published in the Obesity Journal.

Hamlet Gasoyan, Ph.D., lead author of the study and a researcher with Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Value-Based Care Research, said: “Our study shows that patients treated for obesity with semaglutide or trizepatide lost less weight on average in a regular clinical setting compared to what is observed in randomized clinical trials. According to our data, this could be explained by higher rates of discontinuation and lower maintenance dosages used in clinical practice, compared to randomized clinical trial settings.”
