PHILANTHROPY GALLERY UNVEILED AT HOLY CROSS HEALTH
July 8, 2024 – Holy Cross Health recently unveiled and dedicated a new Philanthropy Gallery to honor the remarkable contributions of individuals and organizations that have generously supported the Holy Cross mission throughout the years.
“With our Philanthropy Gallery, we celebrate the generosity and vision of those who have made a significant impact on our hospital and the community we serve,” said Holy Cross Health President and CEO Mark Doyle.
The Philanthropy Gallery represents the longstanding history of philanthropy at Holy Cross started by the Sisters of Mercy who opened Holy Cross in 1955. Their vision and generosity have created a ripple effect, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps and continue the important work of giving back and serving patients.
“This new, beautiful and inviting space funded by philanthropy allows visitors, patients and colleagues to admire and appreciate the extraordinary level of generosity that fuels our mission while also having an area to relax and reflect on their time at the hospital,”

| ONE CITY AT A TIME: MEMORIAL HEALTHCARE SYSTEM BRINGS RESOURCES AND SERVICES TO MIRAMAR COMMUNITIES
July 8, 2024- Memorial Healthcare System’s One City at a Time program rolled into Miramar on June 29 and will be an active presence in the city for the next three months. Mobile units, which provide south Broward residents easy access to health resources and services, all at no charge, will be at community locations three times a week in July, August, and September.
The program seeks to improve the health of the uninsured or underinsured, in part, by removing barriers to health and care and making it easier to connect with available resources. It’s all part of Memorial Primary Care’s commitment to proactive health that can prevent or more easily treat chronic conditions before they become a crisis for an individual and his or her family.
“We know that not having easy access to care is one of the social determinants that impact a person’s overall health,” said Vedner Guerrier, chief transformation officer at Memorial Healthcare System. “That’s why we’ve made the commitment to have our mobile units on-site at community locations to make it easier for people to care for themselves and their families.”

FEATURES OF H5N1 INFLUENZA VIRUSES IN DAIRY COWS MAY FACILITATE INFECTION, TRANSMISSION IN MAMMALS
H5N1 virus did not efficiently transmit via respiratory route to ferrets.
July 8, 2024 – A series of experiments with highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza (HPAI H5N1) viruses circulating in infected U.S. dairy cattle found that viruses derived from lactating dairy cattle induced severe disease in mice and ferrets when administered via intranasal inoculation. The virus from the H5N1-infected cows bound to both avian (bird) and human-type cellular receptors, but, importantly, did not transmit efficiently among ferrets exposed via respiratory droplets. The findings, published in Nature, suggest that bovine (cow) HPAI H5N1 viruses may differ from previous HPAI H5N1 viruses and that these viruses may possess features that could facilitate infection and transmission among mammals. However, they currently do not appear capable of efficient respiratory transmission between animals or people.
