Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center Completes 1000th TAVR

February 7, 2025 – Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center completes its 1000th transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure. A TAVR procedure is a minimally invasive, advanced treatment for severe aortic stenosis.  The milestone surgery was completed by structural cardiologist Dr. Augusto Villa.

“One of Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center’s hallmarks is our cardiac care, achieving this milestone means that we continue to be a trusted community resource when it comes to heart health,” said Erik Cazares, the hospital’s CEO.  “We were the first hospital to complete open-heart surgery in Palm Beach County in the 1980s and have continually invested in some of the latest medical technology.  This milestone is a full circle moment for us since the TAVR is a great option for someone who isn’t a candidate for open-heart surgery.”

When a patient has a tight or stiff aortic valve, called aortic stenosis, it reduces blood flow to the body. This can lead to symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Aortic stenosis can also lead to syncope, where patients can pass out, or even sudden cardiac death.

February 5, 2025 – Physicians Outpatient Surgery Center (POSC) at Holy Cross HealthPlex has been included in Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2025. This prestigious award is presented in collaboration with Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The awards list can currently be viewed on Newsweek’s website.

America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2025 ranking awards the leading ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) in the U.S. based on the quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations, relative to in-state competition. Included ASC operates exclusively for the purpose of providing surgical services to patients not requiring hospitalization and in which the expected duration of services would not exceed 24 hours following an admission. The 25 states with the most facilities, according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), were surveyed individually. The remaining states were grouped into four regions. ASCs from these states were considered accordingly.
