March Newsletter: Saints & Services

Canning specializes in both the restoration of historic interiors as well as the beautification through new design. However, the term "Church Decorator" was a distinguishing UK expression that qualified a decorative painting company. Since churches are historically the most elaborate structures, sparing no decoration or embellishment, "Church Decorators" expressed the capability of a painting firm. If the firm could understand and execute the complex symbolism, artwork, and purpose of a church, they could tackle any interior.

The following projects highlighted below touch on the different services Canning offers in order to complete a restoration or beautification program. From design and rendering services to historic paint investigations, and art conservation to commissions, Canning is capable of reimplementing the historic scheme or installing a design appropriate to the interior.

St. Patrick Church

The church and interior decoration were designed by architect Patrick Kelley. The murals in the nave were conserved and the decorative scheme was restored to Kelley's original design.

Rendering for Commissioned Artwork

St. Joseph

The watercolor rendering picture above is a schematic drawing for a mural installed within a side altar. The completed mural is about 16 feet high and 9 feet wide. The rendering process allows for a visual conversation between the church and the artist in order to develop a design all parties are pleased to implement within the church.
