Do you have a Canning story from the past 45 years?

As we wrap up the year celebrating the past 45 years, we would love to hear from any of our team members (owners, contractors, engineers, architects) that we have had the pleasure to work with over the years. If you have a story, favorite memory or something that you want to share, feel free to send us an email.

November

November is best known for a month of giving thanks, remembering those that have passed and honoring those that have served.  As always, we are grateful for being able to do the restoration and preservation work we love to do and we thank all those that make it possible for us to continue our journey in Perfecting Preservation. To all our clients and team partners, Thank You, we wouldn't be where we are today without you!

Yellow is a color most associated with the month of November, with a yellow to amber color for its birthstone and yellow autumn colors in the landscapes. When it comes to Perfecting Preservation, yellow is also a color you might see a lot of in restoration world. With water damaged plaster, often a slightly brown or yellow hue discoloration can be noted on the plaster or its coverings. Yellow is also one of the common colors often used in architectural glazes and finishes. You can read more on those topics at the links below.

The color yellow also brings to mind a few noteworthy projects.  First is the Maryland Old Senate Chamber restoration project where we restored the 1700s plaster walls and ornament using the original methods and materials of the time. Yellow was one of the colors that was hand mixed to make the traditional soft distemper paint for the walls. The second is the University of Virginia's Garrett Hall restoration project. The color of yellow was part of the period decorative paint scheme that we designed and installed after reattaching and stabilizing plaster and creating a new ceiling and beam structure. The third is the Shrine of Our lady of Guadalupe project in which part of our work included creating the iconic interior decoration and color scheme to compliment the newly constructed Classical-style shrine designed by Church Architect Duncan Stroik. The color scheme included a creamy yellow used for the vaulted ceiling and a neutral greenish raw umber as the base for the walls to create a harmonious ambience of tranquility, contemplation and mystique.
