February

Through the holidays of Valentine’s Day and President’s Day, February is a time to celebrate love and leadership.  In honor of President’s Day and the birthdays of Lincoln and Washington this month we are taking a look back at the Award-winning Fulton County Courthouse Restoration project.  The main and unique feature of this courtroom space is the numerous murals and tondos.  Part of this restoration project included the conservation of fourteen paintings: 10 murals and 4 tondos portraits of early American political leaders, including two of the leaders who celebrate birthday’s this month, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  Each of these paintings were evaluated in order to identify an individual plan of action and the best solution for cleaning, restoring, and preserving these paintings. The original oil on canvas presidential tondo portraits were removed for cleaning and inpainting utilizing conservators’ methods and materials in our studio then marouflaged back onto the courthouse walls. To read more on the Fulton County Courthouse restoration project or paint restoration process and techniques check out the below links.
